New Tahoe arrived from the factory last Wednesday. Actually, the dealership sent a driver to Arlington to drive it back. Sales lady told my wife it would be ready for us last Friday. On Friday, she told her it wouldn't be ready until Saturday.

When it wasn't ready on Saturday, I called to find out what was going on. She told me it was throwing fuel pressure codes and they needed to replace the fuel pump so it wouldn't be ready until Monday. When I asked her about them driving it from Arlington, she didn't have an answer. Now yesterday she calls and says it is still throwing codes and they are in contact with GM to figure out what is going on.

My questions: Do I even want this vehicle now? Is it common for new vehicles to leave the factory already in need of repair. If they do get it fixed, how likely is it to have more problems later? Is it going to be a lemon from now on?

I really don't know what to do at this point. Wife is fine with throwing this one back and ordering another.

I'd say you dodged a bullet and to just order new one. Or make them throw in 10 year/100k bumper to bumper warranty free of charge if you decide to take it.

I'd be hesitant to take ownership but I guess your warranty would cover any issues? How long did it take after you ordered?

When I worked at a Ford dealer I had a lariat f150 that had no main bearings in the engine. Never installed and main caps loose.

Hard pass

Find yourself a 17-20 year old Tahoe or 14-20 year old Denali/Escalade

Do those have the CP4 fuel pump? If the HPFP grenaded then no telling what kinds of debris got spread throughout the fuel system. They can change the fuel pump and flush the system all they want.... I wouldn't want that truck.

I'm less concerned with throwing codes and more Concerned with the inability to diagnose without throwing parts at it.

I'd pass on this man.

It could of been a defective part but I don't want some dealer tech messing with a brand new vehicle. And who knows what else could be wrong or gotten messed up trying to diagnose or fix.

I'd definitely be apprehensive about the vehicle but the fact is that there is a LOT OF STUFF on a modern vehicle and there is a measurable percentage of new parts that fail shortly after install. Because of that? One bad part can give the issues you see and it's not indicative of a "lemon". I'd definitely use it for leverage for free warranties and goodies though.

No "free" warranty is worth taking that chance. Especially if they are covering up anything the car porter did from Arlington to the dealer. Walk away and make them fight with GM over the defect or whatever else is going on.

Does the 3-strike lemon law apply if all three strikes occur before taking possession of the vehicle?

No way I take that vehicle.

It's already a crap shoot, getting a new car...hoping it's well made and there are no issues down the line. I wouldnt increase those chances by taking one that's already having issues.

So if we turn this one back, do we lose our $1,500 deposit? The dealership said it would be non refundable, but I have read (probably on here) that they aren't allowed to keep it.

There is no chance I would take that vehicle and there is no chance they can keep your deposit.
Order a new one, or just buy a gas one.
I'd suggest a Sequoia.

Another issue is when you got to trade in or sell and someone wants to look at service history, major repair work with 6 miles on the odometer is a bad look. So GM is transferring the ultimate economic cost of their **** up to you.

Any sort of car repair something almost always gets broken in the process. Plastic clip, lost screw, broken clip on a plug misalinged pin ... whatever.

If human hands touch it it can and will get ****ed up in the process.

03-06 or 03-09? What's the rationale behind those years? I've been on the hunt for a 13 or 14 escalade esv or xl denali because i figured the last couple years of gmt900 would be the best once i fixed the dod. Or are you just recommending gmt800?

Let me ask something: Can this dealership now sell this same model/trim/options vehicle for more than you ordered it for? ie if you cancel can they sell it to someone else for more than you paid, has the price gone up or are they commanding premiums now?

I don't think so. Maybe the diesels are but even then prices are no where near over MSRP anymore. At least on tahoes.

If it only took 2 months from order to delivery I'd tell them to keep the deposit and order you a new one.

GMT800 & L92 in GMT900/Denali. L92 didn't have AFM

Thank you for all of the replies. The plan for tomorrow is to request a meeting with the saleslady, sales manager, and the service manager. If they can't answer my questions to my satisfaction, then I will throw this one back and order another one.

If you have to ask this question on a new vehicle...

My question: what possessed you to look at a GM product in the first place?

Where did you order from? We've been waiting on a Denali diesel for 18 months at Sewell.

I'm told one is about to become available in Arlington if you can wait a few days.

Drop that car for sure. You don't want a car with that kind of problems off the bat. Move on from it.

No, they must refund the deposit, if they try to keep it, report them to the state of Texas. They are violating the law.

That's illegal in Texas, make sure they know you know that.
Gonna have to flush the toilet, but that's one expensive poo.

I know you REALLY want this because you've been waiting for it like a kid at Christmas, but you REALLY need to walk away from this particular VIN/Vehicle. Like seriously, you REALLY need to move on.

Vehicles are big purchases and expensive ones, don't let your desire to have it outweigh your head.

The fact they're lying to you about the deposit and playing the situation against you hopefully provides you the ability to sack up and understand it's every man for his own interests here.

What questions will you ask them that they could possibly answer correctly? Would you even trust the answers?

This car has a high probability of a future lemon. New car warranties won't solve all your problems. Car dealerships will do all they can to make your life miserable during the lemon repair. That's why Lemon lawyers exist in the first place.

Get your deposit back and go somewhere else. Or start the process over.

This, man. I wouldn't even entertain them.
