How long do you want to ignore this user?
Giving the 2012 Tundra with only 120k miles to my son in the next few weeks and I have no clue what truck to purchase. Don't need 4WD just want it for the once a year snow/ice event. I tow a surf boat a couple times a year. Very short commute to work; <2 miles.

I have loved the Tundra and no real desire to get out of it other than giving to son. Hesitant to pull the trigger on the new Toyota engine.

Everything made since covid has me nervous as far as build quality goes. Not sure if that's warranted or not.

Looking for pros/cons of Toyota/Ford/GMC. I have a mental issue with Ram. Can't get over a friends from the 90's.

If you recommend F150 why and what engine? Same with GMC. Does new Toyota have the reliability that we expect?

Not opposed to getting two year old Tundra, however, I have grown to love all the self driving feature of the wife's BMW X5 and I won't get that in the Toyota.

Thanks for the input.

And……Trying to decide if I should sell the '05 TJ that my son has been driving Back and forth to BCS.

Seems like maybe you should buy your son an older used Tundra and just keep yours. Or but a 2yr old Tundra for yourself

Don't overlook the Titan.

I'd buy a 2020 or 2021 Tundra then in the nicest trim you can get with the lowest mileage. I imagine most 2020's and even some 2021's will miss the "COVID build quality issues" window.

Are you keeping the next truck 11 years?

If so get the Tundra

Also a good suggestion, but if I were to look at a Titan I'd be looking at an XD.

If you want some level of "self driving", then GM's Supercruise is pretty far ahead of the other companies.

Ford has BlueCruise, but I'm not sure which vehicles it is available on.

For your needs, the Chevy 2.7L turbo-4 or Ford 2.7L Ecoboost make sense. You're not towing a lot, but you still want to drive a 4wd full size truck.

I'd probably go with the Ford, given your use case.

If you like Better tech and towing/payload get the Ford EcoBoost or Powerboost. Ford 100% nowadays has the better ride quality and comfortable seats of these 3 brands (Ram probably has better ride quality than all of them nowadays).

If you love V8 or Light Duty Diesel (baby duramax) and Outside Looks of the Truck 100% go with the GMC/Chevy line up. Although GMC seats are crazy uncomfortable to me, especially if you drive long distances. GMC finally updated the infotainment and dash to catch up with Ford, Toyota, Dodge so they've evened the playing field on the infotainment finally. It sucked before.

I'm so bitter Tundra no longer offered in a V8 I have a major distaste of anger for them right now. I say we boycott them until they release another V8. Ha!

Going to also mention the Titan as I just bought one. Have a 2012 F150 with 150K miles on it and just got a 2021 Titan Platinum Reserve with 26K miles on it. Bang for the buck, it is pretty awesome. I had been looking at another F150, the Sierra, or a Yukon/Tahoe. Someone (one here I think) had also mentioned the Titan so I looked into it. Less towing capacity, but not a big deal to me. Interior on the Titan Platinum Reserve is outstanding, very comfortable to drive, plenty of amenities, and I could get more truck for less with fewer miles compared to the F150 or the Sierra. Only had it a week but overall very impressed. Worth looking into.

They're hard to miss with how ugly they are.

I used to think that, but I think the new ones look pretty sharp. Especially in the nicer trims.

Personally I'm not buying any of the new trucks without the extended warranty from the manufacturer.
Recently got a new f250 and got a ford ext warranty for 5 years/ 150k miles. 100 deductible.

For your list and good luck with the last tundra, get another with an extended warranty. That way you won't sweat the turbos and new engine. I just wish Toyota would make a 3/4 ton. The new ford has already been in the shop and needs to go back again. 3,000 miles.
