Best way to price a custom Mustang?

My Father-in-Law has a 2014 Ford Mustang. It's a custom Hertz Penske with the 5.0 Coyote build with only 150 total made. I've linked a copy of the vehicle highlights. The car only has 26,000 miles and has been garage kept and babied pretty much since the day my FIL bought it back in 2016.

He's got dementia and has unfortunately had his keys taken from him to protect him and others on the road. It's bitter sweet but we as a family have decided it's time.

Not sure where the best place to sell this bad boy and if I didn't have car seats to worry about - I'd find a way to buy it. Biggest knock is that is was a rental but he bought it with like 9-10K miles on the odometer.

Yeah but then you price out some 2014 Mustangs on Autotrader with similar mileage of 25K and they are trading closer towards $36K.

Just confusing to get a relative estimate.

Here's one that sold on BaT 3 years ago

I would think that Cars and Bids or BaT would be the best option for this, since pricing it for private sale would be difficult.

GLWS, and sorry to hear about your FIL's health

Carsandbids or bringatrailer are options. You might try listing it on some Mustang forums first if you have a solid idea of what you want to get for it. There are some serious mustang collectors that hang out on svtperformance.com and fordGT500.com.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I'll start digging and exploring on these.

Is it a manual or automatic. Based on the car from BaT that Flaith linked the manual cars are super rare (10 out of 150).

His is going to be an Automatic.

Does not compute.

Some of those comments on there...

"Gather up all the other documents, it may help down the road. Register it with Shelby, about 40.00 and they will send your certificate authenticating it. Also, see if you can get the Shelby build sheet. Very nice vehicle, don't cheap sell it, its worth all the money."

OP's car was not preped by Shelby American and is a 197 chassis not a 550. VERY different vehicles.

Roger that. I wouldn't say Mustangs are my forte. Like a Porsche, I don't know what the differentiators are that make two similar looking vehicles sell for much different prices.

I don't even know what I don't know about mustangs. Just that the 1967 Shelby GT 500 is my favorite because Nicholas Cage cleared a lot of LA traffic by jumping over it on the way to save his brother.

But really - thank you Humpit for the explanation on the difference between his car vs the Shelby.

Yeah Elenor and Bullitt are two of the most famous movie mustangs. I have my own mistress GT500. Her name is Tempest Strom and have learned a lot on the forums.

I think you have a very collectible car but I don't know the value. Hertz has a history with Mustangs going back to the Hertz rent-a-racer back in the 60's. Those early Hertz cars are very collectible and someone with one of those cars in their collection would probably be keen to add the 2014 version. I would be happy to ask for some opinions on the fordGT500forum if you want.

This kind of car is exactly what cars and bids was made for and I could even see Doug reviewing it. Although I'm not sure how you set that up if you're not his friend anymore.

I'll see what I can find out. Also, this is another somewhat local auction site (Houston) that you might look into. They don't have the same visibility as BaT but I think their fees are much less and have more personal service. You might even call them and get their opinion on a reasonable reserve value.

Not sure how this compares, but it's on the chopping block as we speak.

This one was never actually a Hertz rental car but rather a tribute car. Not sure if that matters.

I didn't find out much from the GT500 forum. This might not be worth any more than a nice Mustang GT from the same era. Rare doesn't necessarily translate to valuable.
