Preemptive Battery Replacement

I bought my 2019 Jeep JL at the end of July in 2019. Both batteries were warranty replaced in March 2021. Thankfully I was "stranded" then amongst a bunch of good Ags and had a dozen jumps available.

Haven't touched either battery since but I'm way beyond where the warrantied batteries failed in terms of mileage and time. No signs of either battery giving out yet that I've noticed.

In a week I'm going on a 2,000+ mile road/off-road trip DFW/SW Colorado/Denver/DFW. I plan to go some less traveled routes and will be pulling/charging a trailer the whole way.

Should I replace the main battery? I think I should.
What should I replace it with? I'll need something available at retail in DFW.
My budget is $DontGetStrandedInNM.

1Ag pointed out on another thread that Costco has incredible prices and a 36 month warranty on Interstate batteries. It's a do it yourself job and you return the old battery to Costco for a credit.

Get a jump pack, they're super useful and will give you good piece of mine. I just took a 3437 mile trip and thankfully did not need mine, but I used it to jump a kid that I saw trying to push start his bike. It can also be used to charge phones or whatever in a pinch!

While you're ordering things, pick up some LED roadside flares, just in case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DDBNXXG

I had a fully charged jump pack with me in February '21 when the batteries died. I had charged it ahead of my trip just in case. It couldn't overcome the fact that both batteries were dead.

Which one do you have? I've been super impressed with mine, easily jumps my F250 with two big batteries, starts the Kubota tractor with extreme ease. Its one of the best purchases I think I've made in the last 5 years.

Thanks. I've seen that one, and wonder if it's enough to jump my 6.6L Duramax if necessary. All the ones in that price range say up to 6.0L diesels, and the ones that go up to 7.0L that I have seen are much more expensive.

Well, I could say you could borrow mine to test out, but that would be inconvenient. I have a 6.4 that was completely dead, put this on it, let it sit connected without trying to start for about 30 seconds (couldn't find my key; charge on the jump starter went from 100% to 85% in those 30 seconds) and it cranked very easily.

Cool. Well thanks for that info. Good to hear it worked for your 6.4L.

Are the big diesel engines y'all are talking about started by two batteries? The problem with the Jeep is the stupid ESS battery.

Really here nor there to my original question. When replacing the battery, what would you go with? I'm way past where the previous versions of what I have failed. Interstate at Costco will work but there has to be a better quality battery. I wheel this Jeep a good bit and have some existing and planned powered accessories that are a consideration.

I had one from Costco. Don't recall the branding, not that it would mean anything at Costco.

Jump packs and Jeep JLs not getting along appear to be a thing per the forums.

I've never invested in one but Optima may fit your requirements.

I used to buy Interstate but in the last decade have gone with Autozone Duralast Gold because a couple different people I respect told me that was the way to go. But I just bought two in the past month at $230 each, these year warranty. Costco is reportedly $100 cheaper.

The two batteries in my diesel are wired in parallel essentially making a single big 12v battery, this is convenient as both are charged by the alternator. I'm assuming this is how your Jeep is wired. Most prefer that convenience. If so, and you don't mind spending money, I would recommend Dakota as a solid mid-level dual purpose option

As a lower end option, you can get the yellow capped Optima batteries, these are readily available around town

You need to do some digging on the aux battery issues with the JLs. May not have been your pack's lack of power that failed to jump it. There's a technique to it
