USAA insurance premium for full coverage is roughly double for the 350. Same year, engine, trim. 350 is DRW.
Insane

I'm not a USAA customer, but I did recently learn something about F350 insurance with Progressive. I ordered an F350 cab and chassis as I am having a flatbed installed. Progressive will not insure the F350 on my personal policy and requires a commercial policy since it's a cab and chassis. I told my agent the truck will have a flatbed installed and will be for personal use. He said Progressive doesn't care. Since it started as a cab and chassis, it will only be insured as a commercial vehicle. If I had bought the same vehicle, but with a bed, and swapped the bed out for a flatbed, I could insure it as a personal vehicle.

The flatbed installer told me they cannot install a flatbed on a '23 F350 unless it comes as a cab and chassis because the truck will not start if you remove the OEM taillights.

just got off phone with an agent. Claims the damage a 350 does to other car is a reason. I call BS. The overwhelming majority of dually drivers are employed, married and drive below the speed limit...Stats that matter. Hell, most are parked in a driveway or garage on weekend nights. They charge more because they can

The commercial use angle seems the most logical.

Just last night I traded a '22 Chevy Trail Boss for a '24 High Country dually and my USAA insurance actually went down. Dont ask me why, but I am not complaining.

That is hilarious.

A lot of my fleet customers will buy pickup trucks and go straight to a body upfitter and remove the bed and install a flatbed or work body on it vs buying a cab and chassis for this reason.

Another installer told me the same thing. I'm guessing it will get worked out with Ford, but it seems to be a known issue.

A lot of times a commercial policy on something like this isn't that much more than a personal policy with Progressive. I quickly threw some fake info in and got a quote of $295/month for a 2023 Ford F350 flatbed. Maxed out coverage on a 50 year old. Obviously zip code, age, driving record and other things matter, but that's what I got.

I'm not sure how much it would have been to add to my personal policy (if it had started life with a bed), but the single vehicle commercial policy is $2,514/year or $209.5/month with $1,000,000/$2,000,000 limits.

Wrong. I'm emailing you the document.

We're in the process of switching from a SRW F-250 to a DRW F-350, if we ever find the right one I'll post the differences in insurance for our policy.

Good to know about the chassis models as I've been including those in my searches.

Question for those who know, when you swap out the bed for a flat bed, do the installers buy the bed from you, or do you have to lug it home and ebay it?

Got it. Thanks!

It's not an issue on my F350, but what happens if you have one of the packages shown as "NOT SUPPORTED for Pickup Box Removal" in that bulletin?

I would guess they might be concerned with what you can pull with a 350 dually versus a 250? A big ass travel or horse trailer should create more havoc in a wreck than a medium trailer or boat.

You'd have to change the rear harness and reprogram the bcm just like how my STX now has factory LED tails, blind spot and adaptive cruise with lane centering, and full stop and go capability and rain sensing wipers. I changed the harness and reprogrammed the Modules.
