Bought a new vehicle earlier this week from an out of town dealer. Found vehicle on line with the specs I wanted, negotiated everything over the phone and then drive to finalize and pick up vehicle. After leaving, I realized I didn't have the sticker. No big deal I thought...so I asked them to send it to me because I like to have a copy for my records. They said no problem and they'd send it right over. This was several days ago and after numerous different texts, calls and excuses, they now say they don't have it and have to get it from some third party. Does this sound right? Would they really not have it in their system somewhere? Seems potentially shady to me...

What kind of car? Some manufacturer's have online tools to pull up the original sticker.

I thought they were legally required to have it with the car

True, if manufactured in US and it weighs under 8,500 lbs. so I'm told.

It's been a few years since I worked in the industry but from what I remember the dealer would have to request a new Monroney label from the manufacturer if they don't have it. They could probably print you a build sheet out of their system but it would not be an actual "window sticker"

Did you check the glove box?

It's a GMC. They claim the detail guy threw it away and they can't pull it up in their system once the car is sold. I called GM and was told I have to get it from the dealer. I'm assuming all is okay - but I feel like the dealer is acting strange about it, which makes me suspicious.
