Ags,

I live in Spring and have a 2013 Ram with ~185,000 miles on it...

I like my truck and want to keep driving it, I know that means dealing with more repairs and maintenance, but I figure if you have a good mechanic that's not so bad...

That's where I could use some help. In the past I have used Ripley's off of Rayford rd, I have had some very frustrating experiences there the past couple of times I have dealt with something, so curious if anyone has recommendations for a shop or mechanic that could help diagnose / repair the problem I'm having...

Truck started vibrating a bit when idline and makes a little bit of a popping sound around 40-50 mph. At one point the truck stalled on me. Took it do a different shop, and they said I should get a new engine, that the 5.7 V8 hemi engines are faulty...well i'm looking to keep it low cost, and focus on fixing the problem, not just buying a new engine.

Any help ?

Thanks!

I'll preface by saying I had a 2013 Jeep with that same motor & same code & only 135,000 miles. Ultimately it was throwing the code because a lifter had gone out & ground down the lobe on the cam enough to cause the misfire.

Yes, if you're paying someone else it probably be about the same labor to swap in an engine. My local Mopar expert recommended a Jasper engine. They have a good warranty etc. I am inclined to work on vehicles so I took on the cam & lifter replacement job with the help of a friend.

Parts were under $500. The job took us about 8 hours.

If you want to try a few things yourself: swap spark plug & coil pack from another cylinder to that one & see if the code moves. If it does then get some new plugs & coil packs. If not, try moving a fuel injector from that cylinder to another & see if the code moves. If it does then get a new fuel injector. If the code doesn't change cylinders most likely you need a new camshaft & lifters.

Did you check the obvious things like plugs and ignition parts?

Appreciate the tips here guys...I am not really a mechanically inclined person, but after taking it to a shop and them basically saying it wasn't worth them getting into the engine, I did ask that they replace the spark plugs feeding that cylinder...that didn't fix the problem so I guess it's fuel injection or the cam issue.
