Ford Cam Phaser Recall but I have to pay?

I've got a 19 F150 that has the bad cam phaser rattle that Ford has since recalled.

Apparently the first fix was to do the reflash which was authorized early last year maybe the year before. Ford then came out with another recall around Q2 2021 but this time for a replacement, as long as you did the reflash prior to Dec 31st, 2021. I took my truck in on Oct 26th, 2021 for the fix however they only did the reflash. At the time I had 57K miles on it.

I took it in on Wednesday to get the replacement done. I booked this appointment about 2-3 weeks ago when I could do without my truck. I now have 71K miles and one of the stipulations on this recall is if you have over 69K miles Ford only covers 66% instead of the full 100% for replacement cost. This will cost me over $500 to fix a Ford recalled problem.

Dealership isn't budging, told me to call Ford customer line. Ford customer line said it's black and white here and they won't cover the full amount.

Am I just screwed and need to pay this out of pocket or is there some other resource I have for Ford to pay for their own manufacturing problem?

They won't budge, I've got a 19 and have to pay the whole thing because I missed the first recall. They never sent a recall by mail. Since this is not a "mandatory" recall if you are slightly out of the guidelines they will not budge.

Sounds like a load of shizzle from ford.... sometimes gotta fight ugly..hate to say it... Not the way it should go... But they gonna screw everyone until enough push back
Pay it... Get fixed... Cancel charge on credit card... Cancel credit card if you have to. Let card and ford fight it out. Theyd both eff u at every opportunity

It is more of an extended warranty/customer satisfaction program than it is a recall. By getting the reflash before the deadline you get an extended warranty on the cam phasers that is prorated based the mileage when the warranty repair is performed.

Not sure I'm going to buy another Ford due to their shltty service. I really like my F150 but it does have its little issues that cost money and my truck gets stuck at College Station Ford for 4 days just for a diagnosis.

Add in the cost of a new truck nowadays...

Might be time for a Taco.

I just had this done for 3 grand on my 2013 with 72k miles on it. 3 weeks after getting it back ot made the rattle when I started it again. If I have tobget it fixed AGAIN I am selling the truck. Thank god there's a 2 year warranty on the repair from Ford. I'm pretty unhappy about it.

Wife has owned two 4Runners. 13 years in total. Never taken it in for anything other than routine stuff.

Had a Tundra for five years, never once was it in the shop.

I'm currently on month 9 of Bronco ownership. It's been in the shop four times. As I type this, it's in the shop.

I've never owned a Ford truck for less than 200,000 miles. Currently mine is 20 years old and has 400,000. It's never been in the shop either. The expedition is 10 years old and has 200,000 and it's been in the shop once for a lifter after towing our travel trailer from texas to Michigan and back over three weeks.

Are you saying ford doesn't build them like they used to? I don't hear about any serious issues but again, you're only going to hear about the ones that piss someone off.

I'm not even remotely trying to hate on Ford as a product, I am frustrated that they had a manufacturing defect that evidently isn't a recall, but it is a recall, but is only covered at a certain mileage, then for some reason it's less of Fords fault the longer you drive the vehicle you bought. The logic behind that is frustrating especially when the dealership im working with is not returning my calls and I don't have updates on my truck.

That's fraud/theft, bud… and this is one chargeback the company will win (cameras, VIN, signed receipt, this thread, etc) and it will destroy your credit.

I'm still not sure why they didn't just shorten the length required for oil changes

This is me too. I was a Ford man through and through all my life. Put 365K on a 93 F150, 150K on a 2000 Expy (stupidly traded in with nothing wrong with it due to Obama $4.00 gas), and 200K on 06 Expy.

All of these vehicles were largely trouble free with maybe one major repair (2 on the 93). But I refuse to do the Eco-boost so, currently the wife drives a 14 4Runner that currently has 150K. It has been trouble free other than a recent HVAC control replacement ($800 part). I currently drive an 04 Silverado that I got for free from my dad.
Hearing all this phaser BS, I will probably never buy another Ford unless it is a pushrod 7.3 gasser F250.

Looking back at the wording they use in the Program Terms:
Quote:

PROGRAM TERMS
This program extends the warranty coverage of the engine cam phasers until January 1, 2023 provided the Repair Order (RO) date of Powertrain Control Module reflash under Customer Satisfaction Program 21B10 occurs on or before December 31, 2021. Ford will cover the repair or refund costs following the proration table below using the mileage shown on the RO.

Wouldn't the mileage you had at the reflash be the mileage used for the prorated coverage?

So my 2019 2.7 with 116K is in the shop for a second go round of the oil supply line failure at the left turbo. It happened the first time at 48K.

Could be worse and I understand things happen. Wish it wasn't a repetitive thing.

I brought this up, they said the mileage shown is the current repair order not the initial.

Yeah, just saw the more complete wording later in the document separating out the two different RO dates.

Yep. That's theft of services. Have fun with the bigger problems this will cause.

Similar situation. 19 F150 by the time I heard about the "recall" I had 65k on the clock. Got the reflash and then couldn't get a service date confirmed. Finally left it in the shop for a week and a half only to find out I was on the hook for it. Luckily I have an extended warranty but still extremely disappointed in Ford.

What process is available to prove a point? NHTSA?

Been a Ford guy my entire life but may have to go Tundra in the future.

Good news is I got the Bronco back this morning after a week in the shop. Bad news is the same **** is still broke. So it took four weeks for an appt with a rental and I returned it this AM. Wonder how long it'll be this time.

Really regretting this Ford purchase.

Intermittent low oil pressure light. They replaced the sensor but when I took it in he told me they've seen a few of these and it can result in needing a new engine.

It's under warranty so just drive it. I'd undo the negative battery post terminal for a few minutes to see if it needs to be reset.

I've been driving for a month with it on and off. I just checked the oil level and nothing was ever leaking out in the garage. So figured if I was wrong it's on Ford.

I feel like you're telling me to try the car version of "have you tired turning it off and back on again".

Great news. They got the brocno back in Friday and I got it back yesterda for the second time. Bad news is the oil light just came back on for a third time.

Just here to say I feel for you - why not fix it one more time, drive it to the nearest Toyota dealership and get rid of it.

I've learned my lesson, I won't drive anything other than a Toyota / Lexus as a DD. I would try another Tahoe / Yukon, but knowing even that will have some reliability issues.
