I'm thinking about buying a certified 2016 Acura MDX with a reconditioned motor. It comes with a 6 month/7500 mile warranty from the Acura dealer. Is this a good or bad idea? Thanks in advance.

It's neither good nor bad. It's probably higher risk than an unmolested, low mileage OEM engine. The real question is whether you're comfortable with that risk at whatever price you negotiate.

I'd do it. Honda motors are pretty reliable and not expensive to work on.

Except this Honda had to have a replacement one

They're not invincible but If the car checks out and you get 6 months 7500 miles I'd do it. If the price is right obviously.

Was it a rental that silvy rented?

That warranty is way too short. If they believed in their own work, it would be substantially longer.

12mo/12k more typical. Negotiate that and full send

What, exactly is a reconditioned motor?

Honda and Acura have a high percentage of customers who NEVER do an oil change. Toyota gets them also.

At around 50k the engine seizes or is completely full of sludge. They then get a new engine or trade in the car and the sludge filled one is "reconditioned"
