Any recs? Need to add some speakers and a bluetooth radio too if there's a shop that does both well.

Thanks in advance!

We use Javier' Gulf Coast Crawl Shop for our Jeeps (West Houston, north I10). They are always working on a few old Broncos. They can probably do the AC, but they usually do not work on radios and speakers. Give Javier a call and ask, if they don't work on the A/C, they will give you a few recommendations.

On one of my Jeeps I used Houston Car Stereo on Hillcroft. Radio works fine, but I wanted a backup camera, and it never worked right. Do not recommend.

Second jeep I am using Elevation Jeeps in Katy to install a radio and backup camera. Will see, that is next week.

Thanks a lot! I saw that recommendation on a Bronco message board.

Does anyone have any familiarity with Tech Auto on Waugh?

Any other suggestions?

Javier's does fantastic work on older 4wds. I heard that Marcos who ran the fabrication side left to work sales at 4wheel Parts.
Sound Evolution on westheimer near Hwy 6 does good work.
Jesh and his brother own the place and are on top of the work product.

I have a 68 Bronco that I bought "fully" restored but Ive have been doing quite a bit of work "modernizing" it. I've fuel injected it, digitized the gauges, fully re-wired it, retractable steps, and a few other things.

Even though it was "fully" restored it had a ton of leaks and small mechanical problems. I think the guy that built it just ran out of time. Because of that I had to get a few people involved outside of what I could do.

Tech Auto came highly recommended but when I went to them they were really backed up and I don't think they're the cheapest. I wound up using my regular mechanic in Spring Branch who did a wonderful job for a great price. He was a little slow mostly because he would work on it in the afternoons when his regular cars that needed to be turned were complete or he was waiting on parts for them. He didn't charge me some hours he should have since he was using it to fill time. With that, he wouldn't want to do your AC I don't think as it's a lot of fitting. He just wants to repair what's already there.

I used Sal's Auto Sport to re-align everything as the guy who built it didn't align anything. Sal did a wonderful job for what I thought was a great price. He has some high end rebuilds but he also does a lot of basic stuff. I know he does Vintage Air stuff. I have a refrigerant leak I need chased so might get him to do it after I get the oil leak I'm chasing fixed. Think it's the front main seal but I'll find out this weekend once I put it back together.

I can't recommend Sal enough. Very honest, fair, and patient. He also turns vehicles around as they don't sit in his shop for minor stuff.

A couple other places are Neil's Auto Air Service on Judiway. Looks like he's a really small shop that's not open all the time but they might do Vintage Air or similar.

There's also Ford Specialities on Gessner. I've not used them but they've come highly recommended from a buddy.

With all of that I will say I'm not sure I'd get AC doing it all again. I've never been able to use mine because of the refrigerant leak. I'm gonna get it fixed it and use it but not sure the large benefit I'll get. I've been running with the top off since March. I'll get some cool air blowing but I'm not sure it's gonna make a huge difference riding around with the top off. It's a lot of money and just adds more stuff. I just haven't had mine long enough to determine if reality matches theory.

I think I'm around the corner from you if you ever want to check mine out. I should have the AC all charged up with no leaks in a month. I think I found the leak but just need someone with dye or a detector to confirm so it can be fixed.

As for radio I think you'll want someone that specializes in speakers and radios. I don't have any recommendations but most shops I've talked to don't tend to touch sounds. Radio and speaker places are much better for that. They can do it faster and cheaper.

My radio is in the center console and 6x9s in the door. The guy who built it did it for "free" but I kind of wish he didn't. I'm thinking of doing one of the vintage in dash bluetooths but that's way down the list of things for now.

I'm focused on it being mechanically sound with no fluid leaks.

Damn - that's great info. I had a '77 that I sold when we had twins on the way 7 years ago. Loved that thing but didn't make sense to keep at the time - and I doubled my money (though it would be worth that twice over now). Just bought a somewhat "restored '73 sight unseen, but it remains to be seen just how restored it is. I should get it some time later this week. From my talks with the seller, there's obviously an electrical issue he hasn't been able to diagnose/fix. So I may want to rewire everything.

I had a safari top on my old 77 - but rarely drove it in the summer because it was too damn hot. I thought I'd do a full soft top on this one with zip out windows so we could run ac in hot summer months with windows on (and leave windows off in non summer months).

I'll also probably want to do a small lift and possibly bigger times.

So you;d recommend Sal for the emchanical and electrical stuff? What about the lift?

What color is yours? I'm sure I've seen it around...

I'd like to talk further if that's cool. I'll see if I can find a contact for you...or feel free to reach out at my work email. Should be easy to find.

Much appreciated!

I'd recommend Sal for anything frame related. He's got all the equipment and is a wizard in my mind. Very impressed with what he did.

I believe he can do it all but frames and alignments are his speciality in my mind.

Got your cell so you can take it down if you want. I'll shoot you a text here in a bit.

Looks like another successful TexAgs hookup y'all!

Don't really understand the need for a backup cam in a Jeep…. But whatever floats your boat…

Thanks for the rec. It looks like they focus on Camaros and other muscle cars - but I may give them a call just to see. Thanks again.
