2008 Mercury Sable - blower motor working intermittently.

My kid has an 08 sable and the AC blower will work for a few minutes, then nothing. It'll not work for a week, then come on again for a while. It's random.

I checked the relay and fuses and didn't find an issue. Whats next? Get a test light and see if the blower is getting continuous power? I see that there's a resistor that can go out, but normally when that happens it'll only blow on one speed.

Any ideas? I'm not much of a mechanic, but I have watched hours and hours of Rainman Ray's repairs, and South Main Auto on youtube.

I replaced two of those things recently in a couple of my vehicles and the squirrel cage blowers are usually cheap and easy to access and replace. I think $15 was the price on one of them, and I could swap it out in 20 minutes.

I imagine there's reasonable odds yours is similar. It could be a corroded or burned out connector or switch somewhere also. It works a while then gets hot or vibrates loose and quits.

My son's 02 sable had same thing. Ended up being a little bit of water intrusion that shorted out the blower motor over time. Replaced it in 30 mins, good to go.

I also love me some Rainman Ray! Watch him every morning with my coffee.

Got it done. A new motor / cage fixed the problem. I took out a few screws that I didn't have to though, and had some help from my daughters friend/boyfriend?

FYI it can be done without tools. The motor assembly just has to be rotated to remove / replace. No need to remove the glove compartment either.

Sounds like you're good to go.

If the problem comes back check out the blower motor control module / resistor. I had another Mercury where it went bad and kept the blower from coming on at all, rather than just running at one speed.

That part generally mounts on the firewall under the hood. The module for the auto A/C is quite a bit more than for the manual A/C, FWIW.
