2011 Ram 1500. 161K miles. In your opinion, what are the best options for helping to restore some of the lost performance due to mileage and age without having to open engine? Fuel system treatments? Spark plugs and boots?

  • plugs & wires
  • check compression when changing plugs ????
  • pull and clean throttle body
  • BG44k through the tank
  • Air filter
  • Clean MAF

Non -engine
  • Check/Clean radiator & condenser (especially the space between them)

This is a really good list. Also, since it's a 2011 ram... Replace the transmission as a preventative maintenance.

J/k, hopefully

Good point about the Trans....

  • Drop Trans pan and change filter and fluid... DO NOT FLUSH
  • Check and clean all ground points (including one behind the kick panel on the drivers side)

I think it's more of an issue that the v6 came with a 4 speed, vs 5 speed with the v8.

It's only maybe 1-2 mpg better with the v6. Edmonds webpage has them with the same mileage on paper. https://www.edmunds.com/dodge/ram-pickup-1500/2010/review/
