Got super lucky. Was heading down 183 here in Austin to meet a friend for lunch at the Chuys on Duval.

Truck was totally normal then pulled into my parking spot and put it in park. Check brakes light comes on, pedal goes to the floor with an awful noise. Checked the reservoir and it was very low. Google / YouTube tells me master cylinder / brake booster failure. Had it towed to the shop near my house.

Thanking the good Lord it didn't fail 10 mins earlier when I was going 75 down the highway.

I have a '14 f150 and remember a recall on the master cylinder (I think). Not sure if that's of any help at this point though…

Yeah I called and they said no open recalls on my VIN so it either doesn't apply or was already done.

seems like a poster here sued and won or settled with ford for an engine that was ruined when it somehow ingested brake fluid.

Did it seem like you had to press the brakes a bit harder days or weeks before the failure?

I wonder if the heat contributed to the failure.

Probably didn't help.

Failure in one of the lines?

No. Felt completely normal.

Maybe but no fluid under the truck. My guess is the rear seal on the master cylinder failed and fluid went into the booster. Just hoping it didn't get into the engine like the other poster who had to sue.

I'd check for recalls or service bulletins. I seem to recall there are known design issues with ford brake systems if that vintage. I received a note if I remember correctly that Ford will eventually schedule my expedition for a brake system recall once parts are available.

There was an issue where the MC leaked into the booster and then the brake fluid was sucked into the engine through the booster vacuum line.

Ford is well known for issuing recalls that don't cover the full range of vehicles using the same exact equipment being recalled. They will make NTSB force them to widen the recall by showing the # of complaints about the same issue before they will admit that Part A used on Vehicle A is just as likely to fail on Vehicle B using the same exact Part A.

My 2013 failed going 80 on the freeway at 0300 in rural Alabama or Mississippi. Kept on going until I couldn't stay awake anymore and pulled off at an exit only for there to be a brand spanking new auto parts store at the exit. Took a nap and when i got up,, Bought brake fluid and filled her back up and pumped the brakes. That got me home to Houston where I took it to the dealership to have the master cylinder recall work done. Very surprised I'm not dead.

Yep. Failed brake master cylinder. Needs replacement as well as brake booster replacement. $1200. Gross.
