5.3 L. Family members Engine lost power and knocking in December. Chevy shop fixed one side of engine but would not do the same on the other side. Headed back to East Tx from a ski trip to New Mexico, the other side started knocking. Had to leave it in Amarillo and fly home as no rentals were available. Now they need to fly back to get it this week.

Chevrolet has a well know problem. Wonder how long it will take them to own it?

In all seriousness, for those in the know, how are these lifters different from those on past iterations of the 5.3?

Does it have dynamic fuel management or auto start/stop? Wondering if those might be part of the problem. I have a 2021 Silverado with the 5.3 and 571 miles on it. No DFM but I can turn off the auto start/stop. Hope I don't have that lifter issue to look forward to.

Lol, they've had that problem since at least 2007 if not before. Don't hold your breath waiting for them to fix it.

They at least don't fail as often now. I wouldn't expect that they to own up to it either

You left out the part where your family member tried to trade the Suburban for the only 3/4 ton truck in Amarillo and as he was filling out the paperwork a salesman walked into the office and told him "Sorry we just sold it"

Had it happen on my wife's 2021 Yukon with 5.3l at around 7500 miles. Dealership says it's a known issue and claims a redesigned lifter, but wouldn't replace the other side. Furthermore, if we would have kept driving, it would torpedo the camshaft and require an engine replacement. So I can tell you, if it happens to me again prior to the 3/36k being up, I'm driving it until the engine locks up.

Sounds like a good time for aftermarket cam and lifters, maybe some TSP cylinder heads

Do the 6.2 motors have this issue too?

Frankenstein heads

I'm sure the 6.2 has the same lifters. Wiping out a cam doesn't necessarily mean a new engine. Wiping out a cam and continuing to drive it normally would wipe out an engine.

Not sure. I think it does cut off at stops but I've never ridden in it.
Strange as I've had three different chevys with the 6.0 gas and they have had no engine problems. Including a 18 and 19 2500 Hd I still have. The 18 has 145k miles.
My wife has wanted to trade her 460 Lexus for a bigger Tahoe. Glad we haven't found one now.

6.0 is a different motor design

Yes. I'm keeping the 18 and 19 2500s as long as they will run. They drink gas but nice to have a 93 Toyota pickup 4 cylinder and an 02 Yukon with the 4.6 gas as backups.
