My turn at dealing with an insurance repair. Mrs. was rear-ended on the freeway (DFW) this afternoon. Aside from the normal "guess the damage" or "is it totaled" fun, we have the added variable that the girl who hit her is Canadian, complete with Canadian plates, ID, and insurance.

Has anyone dealt with Manitoba Public Insurance on a claim? I'm hoping it was better than the last time I was rear-ended by someone with Mercury.

We have Farm Bureau insurance. My agent didn't seem to think it was that big of a deal, but advised to try and file on theirs first, with the back-up plan of filing on my own & letting them figure it out if we run into issues.

I'll bet your experience with Manitoba Insurance will be better than if it was Tamaulipas Insurance.

Get ready for, "So, you were rear-ended, eh?" "Was anyone hurt, eh?"

Wait you're not at fault and your insurance is making you contact their insurance to file the claim? Is that normal? I don't think I've ever contacted the other persons insurance. I call usaa and they do the rest. That's way outside of your ability to navigate successfully.

Quick update here. I feel like I'm in a South Park episode.

Phone goes straight to a recording. At least it started with the English version, my French is worse than my German. Sorry we are too busy to answer the phone for the time being. Log-in to your account online to file a claim.

You should just file with Farm Bureau. You pay for insurance for a reason, and it's not just for if you're at fault. If you have first party coverage then I would just let them handle it. Keep in mind that your company has employees where you live, Manitoba does not, they are going to have to find someone local and hire out. Then wait on the report, everything will have delays on it that you shouldn't expect with your carrier. I think auto insurance is handled by the Canadian government, so take whatever degree of bureaucracy you are used to with American insurance companies, and double it.

Finally got through to someone and they said to file on my insurance and let them work it out. My FB agent is starting a claim. He says subrogation is taking ~6 months with a decent counter party, so this'll be fun.

If Farm Bureau can get them to accept liability they might waive your deductible, that's pretty standard as long as the other carrier accepts. I would ask your adjuster about that just to see what they say, worst case scenario you are just out your deductible. The other positive is they have insurance and Texas has maybe the highest uninsured motorist rate in the country.

Stand by my original take. This is not your job and you can't succeed here. Make Farmer's take care of this or fire them when it's over.
