How long do you want to ignore this user?
A few weeks ago, my wife's Odyssey started giving a FCW Failure message (Forward Collision Warning), the FCW and LDW (Lane Departure Warning) lights come on, and the "D" on the gear indicator starts blinking. I've tried pulling codes, but not getting anything. I've gone to 3 different auto parts stores to see if theirs would pull it, but they're not getting anything either. My next stop will be my independent to see if theirs will pull it.

But I don't think it will because the check engine light doesn't come on. If I turn the van off and turn it back on, it goes off and only comes on after we drive a while.

Overall, the van drives the exact same as it did before. No misfires, no issues that I'm feeling or hearing with the transmission, and no check engine light has ever come on. I've looked online to see what this is and there isn't much on it. Most of what I'm finding involves the check engine light coming on and it being a battery related issue, which this isn't since we replaced the battery since this first started.

Just taking a shot in the dark to see if anyone here has had a similar issue with a Honda and what the fix is.

Edit: Van has ~54k miles.

it's possible there are other modules with codes that you'd only see with the advanced reader (that I believe don't necessarily set the CEL)

Not sure. I'm hoping the independent I go to has a reader that can do that. I'd imagine they do as they have been in the area for years and have a good reputation.

Sometimes a failing alternator or voltage regulator in the alternator can cause all sorts of random errors. On my way out of town awhile back, I had an 06 M5 and the VR failed on 290 and I had to get it towed. All sorts of random errors popped up prior...ABS, DSC, transmission cog of doom. A $40 part later and all was well...crazy.

Just an update. Took it to my local independent last week and had them pull the codes and it was throwing all sorts of chit. FCW failure, low battery voltage, high battery voltage, Driver front tire low, passenger rear tire low, etc. They said this may be some kind of computer issue and they'd recommend I take it to the dealer, so I did.

Dropped it off a couple hours ago, and the damn thing is still under warranty. Didn't know that. Thought it was only 3/36, but for powertrain, engine, etc, it's 5/60. They said Honda says to drain the transmission fluid to see if there is any metal shavings in it and go from there. I doubt there will be given it shifts just fine, so who knows. But honestly, don't care since I don't have to pay for it. Hope it's not anything other than a computer going haywire because I don't want to continue to own a vehicle with transmission issues prior to 60k miles.

Welp, driving to my daughter's softball game this morning and the FCW Failure warning came back on about a mile from the park. Engine started shuddering when accelerating and idling as well. Called the dealership and they sent a tow truck to get it. Hopefully they don't call and say it's something different as all sights are pointing to the same thing with the addition of shuddering happening when accelerating.

I thought Hondas were supposed to be reliable.

We have a 2014 and it went bonkers with odd lights flashing, check engine light, and the engine not sounding right a few years back. Was headed to the dealership, but took it to advance auto parts on the way and found the battery had a bad cell. Once we got a new battery, it's never had the problem again. If that hasn't been checked, I'd give it a try. These vans like to eat batteries.

My daughters 14 accord had same issue. It was VSA Modulator.

We changed the battery a few weeks before the first issue. I'm curious what the dealer says and and praying it's the same issue so it's covered under their warranty since the van is now over 60k.

There are no other signs the battery is going bad.

So the dealer installed new parts? Those should come with their own warranty... and not tied to the 5/60.

If I were to walk in and buy a TC... I'd expect the part to come with a warranty.

If I had a dealer install the TC... and it failed under the "part" warranty... that's the direction I'd be taking my argument. If a dealer claimed that new part only was covered under the warranty that came with the car... 'nappenin in my book. Once I made the dealer aware of exactly how much it would cost them to defend my "action"... they'd pony up. They'll do the math.

If your dealer refuses to work with you over the failed part you are welcome to contact me. I'd do my best to help you get it worked out. Gratis.

Yeah, the part is covered for 12/12k, which is why I'm hoping that's the issue. Otherwise, we're a few thousand miles over and out of warranty for anything else.

The should cover it no matter as long as it is powertrain.

If they failed to properly diagnosis while you still were under warranty they should fix it.

Received a call yesterday saying it was the coil pack on one of the cylinders, which only has a 3/36k warranty rather than a 5/60k. I tried to argue it, but the best they could do is comp the tow charge of $150. Going to pick it up this afternoon. Just over $300 OTD...could have been worse I guess.

The guy did say it's a common failure with Hondas but rarely below 100k.

You know, I've owned 6 Hondas over the years so I've been a big fan, but the last couple I've owned, Have had quite a few issues. The drive train has been solid....still very good engines, but all the electronics and periphery stuff is just really glitchy.
