Looking to get into a Ford Expedition Max here in the next few months. Currently have an 08 Acadia but need more space with our 4 kids. This would be our first Ford. Leaning towards the Limited as it appears to be most similar to the features we appreciate in our SLT (primarily, remote start and leather interior). Anything in particular to look out for? Budget is around 50k, so likely looking at something with 50k miles or so.

My wife has an XLT with remote start, leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charger and 20inch stock wheels. Don't have to splurge for a limited if that's the main amenities you're looking for.

We have an '18 max in an XLT with most options available in that trim (leather, nav, adaptive cruise, heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel). There really aren't any amenities that I find it lacking for my family's use. Just something to think about if you are trying to keep cost down when looking at trims.

Anything to look out for on the years or are they esentially identical? I haven't seen anything about recalls that would concern me.

Look at Navigator L's too...though noticeably more $ when new vs Expeditions in general, found used were comparable price (for more options) or less when bought my wife a '16 with 3.5L ecoboost in Jan '20. Just hauled 3 girls to Michigan and pleasant trip, alot to do with vehicle..

Based on the features/options lists, I was looking for a limited max 302A package or better. I ended up getting 2019 platinum max because the price was right. I'm sure COVID has jacked with prices since I bought in November 2020, but I paid 55k with 28k miles.

I've put about 10k on since I bought it (road trips) and I like most of the options and the overall drive.

I probably could have been happy with the limited 302A and saved some money but happy with the platinum too. we really wanted second row captains chairs, 360 camera, CCD. i really love the power off the line too. crazy how fast this thing moves from 0.

i spent a lot of time on the expeditions forums too. theres a lot of great info there.

Recently considered the Limited vs XLT comparison. My wife instantly noticed a difference in the quality of the XLT "leather" and seat comfort vs. the Limited. It's one of this things that for us, once we noticed it we could never un-notice.

Any issues fitting the Max into a standard 2 car garage? We only ever put one vehicle in there due to kids bikes etc. According to the dimensions for it online I shouldn't have an issue but curious to hear real life experience.

I have a limited max. It's a former rental but I wanted second row bench and sunroof delete so I didn't have much choice.

It's been really great so far (2018 now with 77k miles). Replaced the wheel hub once but parts are readily available.

I came out of an odyssey. The odyssey was bulletproof I suppose but lots of creaks and squeaks, terrible tech. I like the max better but it is still definitely a big domestic truck.

Fits in a 2 car garage but just barely

You also get the tuned 3.5 motor with an extra 25 HP in the Platinum vs Limited I have the same truck and the acceleration is really insane for such a big sled.

Found a good price on a pretty fully loaded Limited (301A I believe, plus headrest rear entertainment), think we are moving forward on it today. Test drove it yesterday and it checks all the boxes. Inside space is even better than I was expecting and the ecoboost feels great. My only experience has been with the standard size Expedition. Really happy to find one with captains in the 2nd row as I was hesitant to move to a bench since we will always have to utilize the 3rd row.

good luck! The max does fit in 2 car garage barely (like mookie said) - the proximity sensors and/or camera system make it much easier to navigate the tight space.

For the captains chairs, we usually walk between them to get to third row rather than slide/fold them down since its so easy and a ton of head room to walk back.

If I were to buy a new (to me) vehicle right now, a 2018 Navigator Black Label (top trim level) with 30k miles or less would be on my short list. You can get them around $65-$70k when they were over $100k new.

Nice. You certainly can't say you are lacking in space.

An XLT with the 202A package will get you the leather, ventilated (heated and cooled) front seats, and remote start.

We kind of fell into the Max limited ('18) while searching for the XLT with that equip package. I don't need power running boards or the panoramic moon roof, but they are standard on the Limited.
America was built on speed, hot, nasty, badass speed.

Huge space upgrade from the Acadia. We'll keep this one for a while.
