How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have a 2015 Genesis with the 5.0 and less than 17K miles. It has three paint scratches/scrapes, no door dings or any dents to the body. The inside is immaculate. Garage kept and due to COVID (I'm almost 70) I have driven less than 500 miles in the last 16 months. I bought the car in 2016 after I saw a couple of folks on here brag about the good deals they were getting. I jumped in and after seeing an ad by Sterling McCall in Houston I paid $38 and change for a vehicle with a $53K window sticker. New tires on the rear last year and replaced the original battery last week.

I've always preferred a manual over an auto transmission and because of the car market lately I wanted to look into maybe getting another Corvette (I've had three) or Mustang (I sold my GT 500 Cobra about 8 years ago) I ran my VIN through CARVANA who basically told me I was lying about my mileage as when I contacted them last year (I didn't) I reported 60+ thousand as mileage. Called a number they provided and was told they couldn't help me.

Now Vroom. They offered me 8 thousand. Surely that was a mistake. Called them and they replied the offer was based on me still having 9 thousand on the note. I have a clean title. WTH.

So I tooled around with Edmonds and Kelly Blue Book. They quote 20 - 25 K. Do any of you know of another place on line I might be able to get a reliable appraisal? I'm trying to avoid going to a dealership but will if I have to. Not in a hurry.Open for suggestions.

Use the Kelly blue book instant cash offer tool. It's a good way to get a reliable starting point with firm offers from dealers.

I was an early adopter buyer in 2017(which I don't typically do)with Carvana. Their process was great but they totally misrepresented the car. Avoid.

You can try givemethevin or theappraisallane.com.

This offer seems wild. Just last week I sold my wife's 2015 Genesis 3.8 RWD with Signature and 70k miles for $17,525 to VROOM and have already been paid.

Carvana and Carmax were about $1k less. In your unique situation, I'd try Carmax, or an actual car dealer since they are so low on inventory right now, many are straight up buying cars off the street.

You still owing $9k shouldn't tchange the offer price. If you still owed $35k would they give you that?

I'd make sure you wrote down and entered the VIN correctly, didn't confuse a B for an 8,etc

Fine. I'll give you $8001, wait even $9001, and pick up from your driveway just like the other guys.

These online dealers are based on volume and trying to keep low overhead for that volume. Having employees capable of thought is expensive. I'm no help, just trying to provide stove justification.

Are you in CS? Could be part of the problem is location.

I know several people looking for a used car. I bet you might have luck posting it for sale here. Try the other sites mentioned above for a bottom line price then sell it here.

Post your Vin here. Something seems strange to me from the answers you are getting show a lien and 60k mileage. Someone could do a check on it.

New rear tires at 17k miles? You're doing it right

That is nuts. I would try CarMax. We got a great deal from them on my FIL's SUV pre-COVID that kind of shocked me.

Can't imagine what we would have gotten now.

We used Carvana last year when we sold my deceased brother in law's '13 Veloster. We wanted at least 4 but they offered 5.5K which covered his funeral expenses. Easy process.

I have a few weeks to decide what I want to do. I forgot that I promised my grandson he could borrow the Genesis to impress his latest squeeze with a birthday trip next month to some upscale restaurant in Houston with valet parking. Don't want to disappoint.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm confused, are they offering that amount in a check? So that plus what you owe?

What is your email address? I'd like to talk to you about the Genesis.

I assumed they would cut me a check for the 8k and pay off the balance but discussions never got that far as they kind of pissed me off. I'm sure their legit but that car is worth more than 17K.

So do owe $9,000 on this car or not? You said above you had clear title. I took that to mean you paid it off already after buying it in 2016.

Most all of the algorithms run a carfax behind the scenes. Are you sure there are no wrecks/airbag deployed/mileage inconsistency on the VHR?

Yes paid off.Don't owe anything. At first, when I wrote my original post I was pretty steamed.at Vroom and Carvana. Now upon reflection and having a great fathers day with my son and his family that crap is taking a back seat. Their loss. I've sold/traded plenty of cars in my life and don't need their help even if it is convenient.

Haven't pulled a VHR but that could be one possibility. May be a good idea to see. Also going to call or visit my credit union soon to see if it's something on their end concerning the title. Doubtful though. I've previously done business with Carvana but I never requested a quote on my Genesis.

I do appreciate all the help from everyone but I'm going to back away from this for awhile. Getting steamed at stuff like this isn't good for my BP. I'll post with the happy ending.

If you email me the VIN I can run a carfax and autocheck for you. Email in profile.

Competes with cars like 5 series so it makes sense.

I'm not sure that it does. It doesn't "compete" with a 5 series in any way other than maybe the overall physical dimensions of it. Don't mean to derail this thread, but a 53k stick price on a 2015 hyundai is insane, at best. y'all carry on though, I don't have a car or a dog in this fight.

Well, I'm just saying that's the class of car they want to compete with. From an ROI perspective, it's damn hard to beat acknowledging that the performance of a BMW will still be superior, but I'm not sure $20k more superior or whatever it is a 5 is going for these days.

Especially with the more recent Genesis models.

I searched texags for this very subject and found this.

Carvana appears to have some nice cars with the mileage and features that I'm looking for. Has anyone purchased a car from them?

Im not somsure about buying a car unseen. Is there anyone to talk to?

Wait a little if you can. The likes of Carvana, Vroom, etc. will likely be begging for business come q3

I honestly don't see any way Carvana survives. My prediction is stupid car kiosks sitting abandoned for years, eyesores across the cities Carvana built in.

They might be begging to SELL, but why would you expect them to be begging to BUY cars.
PrestigeWorldwideAg12

Because coupland was asking if anyone has purchased from them… I assume that means he might be in the market to buy and is asking for experience in that department.

Thanks.

No trade in. Just buying although we may take the opportunity to get rid of an old farm truck with my purchase.

I'm in no big hurry although my old car was totaled put. I might wait......just not sure.

My question is exactly as PrestogeworldwideAg12 states. This buying a car in this way is just alien to me. Not sure I can do it so I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences

Their creditors will spin Adesa off in the re-org and then old carvanas will turn into Carmax delivery centers.
