Ignition key is also tailgate key. Key is stuck in tailgate in unlock "turned CCW" position and will not turn vertical for removal or right to lock. Tailgate is closed and latch will not operate to allow tailgate to open.
Anyone else have this issue? Is it fairly straight forward to access and repair or do I need any special tools?

Do it turn back vertical at all? Or stuck all the way CCW? Either way I think you're gonna have to remove the inside panel. If it is stuck all the way CCW I would think maybe a rock or something is jamming it, if it just won't quite get to full vertical then the pin that goes into the plastic triangle might have slipped.

Got 'er done. Relatively quick and easy 15 minute job. No electronics, all mechanical. Allen wrench to remove inside panel cover. The internal lever that is operated by turning the key is supposed to fit into a slot on a plastic piece that in turn manipulates control rods to open or close. Somehow the lever came out of the slot and was up against outside of plastic piece, preventing key from turning. Was able to fit lever back into slot and works like new. Will keep allen wrench in ashtray in case it happens again in future, can repair on the spot. Yesterday had to make a 2 hour round trip to go home and get spare key to be able to drive truck home.

That can happen when you try to unlock while simultaneously pulling on the latch
