2008 Acura MDX - 150k miles - sputtering and SH-AWD light on

Howdy Auto Friends,

My wife's MDX is in need of TLC again. She said it was sputtering at idle, so I took it around the block and sure enough it is. I tried to floor it and the power just isn't there. After I floored it the CHECK SH-AWD light came on.

Any ideas?

You have a bad coil or plug.

The SH-AWD light comes on when the engine isnt running correctly, it will disable the AWD system to "encourage" you to have it looked at quicker.

I just drove it again and this time in addition to the SH-AWD error I got a check engine, check emissions and a P0305 which google tells me is, as you said, spark related.

Should I try to narrow down which one or best to just replace all the way around?

I would move the coil to another position to see
If the code follows. If so,
Then you know that coil is bad.

Are the coils all original? When was the last time the plugs were replaced?

I would do plugs and coils as preventative to it doesn't happen again
