How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have been stuck at version 2.0 since I bought the truck. Haven't had luck updating it myself. Connected to Siri, but never shows that an update is available. Tried the memory stick, and that didn't work either. Ford dealership wants $195 to do it for me. Any other options before I take it to them?

When I first got the truck I had a Samsung and Android auto works on Version 2.0. Then I upgraded to an iPhone X but Apple car play doesn't work on version 2.0.

Thanks

I've always downloaded onto a thumb drive and installed it. The instructions on the Sync website were all that were needed.

CarPlay won't work without updating the USB hub - the one that came in a 2016 wasn't CarPlay compatible.

This is the one I installed in my brother's '16 (it was only $42 when I bought it):

Like EMY92 said, I always updated via a thumb drive with no issues. Might need to check that it's a clean format, and use a smaller drive (less than 16gb) - SYNC doesn't like the bigger ones sometimes.

To clarify, I believe he has SYNC3, version 2.0.

SYNC2 was more commonly known as My Ford Touch, and I believe ended with the 2015 model year.

I posted a step by step on my last SYNC 3 update.

Let me go find the post and link it here.

Not difficult - just a little time consuming

OK - Found my post. Follow it step by step - I've got a few buddies who were successful updating V2.3 to V3.0 using the steps/process I've outlined in the attached topic. It works.

Also - as others have stated - you will need to change out the hub in the console for the system to recognize CarPlay/iPhone. It was like $60 at the dealer if I recall correctly....

Good to know. Didn't realize I would need a new hub. I'll have to order that and get it in. I think I could do it myself without too much issue.

Definitely doable. I had to manually install each file individually (actually going into the install script and crossing out stuff), plus change the USB hub, but it came out fine.

There are lots of videos out there if good talking their full center stack apart to swap the hub, but with a plastic trim tool, you can just pull it out the front.
