Has anyone had their sunroof repaired in Austin, Buda, Kyle, or San Marcos area?

I can't seem to find a shop that won't charge me $2,500 for a repair.

What kind of vehicle? I got the parts from sunroof doctor for my 2015 F150 (The Sunroof Doctor) and fixed it myself. It was actually pretty simple. Just took my time and consulted youtube.

Costs depend on what needs to be repaired.

On my 2007 F150 there were two different things that break - linkages ($150+/-) or the motor/control unit ($1,500+). Of course the failure on mine was the motor/control unit. Basically replace the entire sunroof with a new one.

I went to my local body shop and paid them cash (under $100) to pin the glass in the closed position and remove the wiring to the switch. Other than not being able to open it... the sunroof was trouble free for several years before I sold the truck.

Avoid any vehicle with a sunroof going forward.... Took me a while to find my current F150 Lariat FX4 WITHOUT a sunroof...

Yes agreed! I will never get another sunroof vehicle again; I hardly ever use the damn thing.

It's all the linkages that broke motor still works.

After calling around to several different shops, the price was too much for me; since I had five days off for a holiday, I figured I'd give it a shot.

It took me a total of three days each and day, working about 3-4 hours. Honestly, I could've done it in one, but I was trying not to rush or make any mistakes.

Overall it wasn't bad. I was doing it by myself would've been nice to have an extra hand; while the headliner was down, I installed some sound denting material.

Everything works like new, but to be honest, I will never open it again, and my next truck will never have one.

What makes them fail is not properly lubing the weather stripping. It then sticks and breaks things when it tries to open. I obviously learned the hard way as well. If you do want to use it use this lube:

Krytox by Chemours GPL 205 Grease, Pure PFPE/PTFE, 0.5 oz Tube (D10170248): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

It's expensive but I did my 2015 F150 sunroof and my wife's 2017 Explorer sunroof and probably used less than 1/8th of the tube. Once a year and it should work smooth as butter for life.

Does using the Krytox grease help the seal also keep water out?

Silicone grease is what you use on an underwater housing gasket to keep your scuba camera dry.

This usage seems identical but on a larger scale!

Yes. This goop plus opening the sunroof and cleaning the body metal where the seal contacts periodically helps as well. Just rained about 5" here over New Years and no musty smell on Monday morning when I headed into work.
