How long do you want to ignore this user?
My wife's 2016 Subaru Outback is due for it's 60,000 Mile/60 Month Maintenance. The dealership is quoting me a little over $1,000 for this service. What is absolutely necessary? Does anybody know of a non-dealership option in San Antonio that could do this for less? Thanks in advance.

Details:
Perform tire rotation & inspection
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Replace air cleaner element
Inspect fuel line
Inspect parking brake
Replace spark plugs
Inspect front & rear differential gear oil
Replace brake fluid / clutch fluid (MT model only)
Inspect brake line
Inspect steering system (power steering)
Inspect CVTF
Inspect clutch system
Inspect V-belt
Inspect wheel bearings
Inspect suspension
Replace A/C filter every 12 months or 19,200 km (12,000 miles)
Inspect disc brake pad and disc
Inspect transmission gear oil
Inspect cooling system
Inspect axle boots and joints

That's a whole lotta inspect and not much replace for over a $1000.

I recently had the transmission and brakes flushed and filled on my Explorer at Covert Ford for about $400. I was pleasantly surprised by the price. Just a data point for you. I would at least get an estimate from an independent shop.

Yeah that's way off. What you show is what they do for any full service oil change plus air filter.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

So essentially $1k for this:

Perform tire rotation & inspection
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Replace air cleaner element
Replace spark plugs
Replace brake fluid / clutch fluid (MT model only)
Replace A/C filter every 12 months or 19,200 km (12,000 miles)

FWIW I did my spark plugs at 60k on my old 2.0i Impreza (same engine family) they were good to go. I'd run a 75k or 90k interval on those.

Sounds like what Quick Lane does on The Works oil change, minus the plugs.

That's all a Saturday morning and 3 beers other than the spark plugs. I changed my WRX plugs (probably well over 100K miles) but it's a bit of a PITA and you'll need lots of different extensions to get in there.

The spark plug job on an Outback is a pain in the ass. I think its a 400-500 job on its own due to labor.

Ask them to requote per the owners manual,
Not the "menu price" that the dealer recommends, which does maybe 1/4 of your book and the rest is all Wynns flush bull*****

I did exactly what 1ags suggested for the 60k service on my wife's 2016 Outback and here's the breakdown:

Replaced engine air filter
Replace brake fluid
multi-point inspection
oil and filter change
tire rotation
replace spark plugs (4cyl - this was $219 labor and $100 for the plugs)

take care of my own wiper blades and cabin filters etc so left those out. Also deferred the throttle body cleaning for $96 and fuel/air induction system service for $216 which I don't think are in the manual.

TOTAL labor, parts & tax was $641 so not terrible I guess.

This was at Austin Subaru who have never given me a hard time about saying no.

hope this helps - I'll be willing to do more of this myself once off warranty (stupid CVT extended to 100k)

Drain and fill the CVT soon!

FWIW, OP, many of these "inspections" are covered by their "free multi point inspection".

They dont make money off those. They wait for busy and stressed people that come in and have deferred maintenance, cant remember when anything was done last, and expect that 30/60/90K services should be 4 figures.
