I have an air cooled '84 250R. Blew the motor a few years ago, but I have a Hondaline 300 big bore motor waiting to go in when I get around to it. It ran pretty good in 250 trim, would love to have an 85-86. 86 had a six speed vs five speed in the 85 btw. Really would love to build a BVC trike using a new TPI KTM 300 exc.

Looks nice! The way my parents talked about those way back when I figure they'd all be extinct by now.

I bought a first year production 250R when they came out. I worked all summer to pay for it and got it in the fall. I terrorized our rural county and it's a miracle I'm alive, yet here I am. The 250R is a beast. Simple as that.

I stumbled on a stash of 70s a while back, brought then home, and got a couple running. It rekindled the spark enough I bought an '85 200X 5 speed (4stroke/250R suspension). I ride it like an old man though.

I have a 1986 Honda Fourtrax TRX200SX. I picked it up from a family member for nothing and restored everything but the plastic as it was in good shape. Fun little machine with a five speed. I'd eventually like to get its three wheeled sibling.

Say goodbye to your calf muscles.

SIL's family had 4 250Rs until they got stolen or sold off and replaced with 400EXs. 250Rs are cooler.

In retrospect, I bet mine was an '82. I remember having that brochure all summer and hoping I'd have enough. It certainly had the red engine and the black seat - so '81 or '82, they were almost identical. I think now 82.

while we're on the subject.

I have been secretely wanting a 350X for a year or so. Just because I'm old and the 4 stroke would be easier to ride at a pace that I'm likely to go nowadays. I grew up on 3 wheelers and always lusted after the 250R. My fastest trike was a Yamaha 225DX. I did ride a Tecate once and it scared the bejesus out of me.

I probably have 10k miles on trikes and I never ran up the back of my leg. I grew up in the woods of Tennessee though. No bombing sand dunes or anything. Lots of tight trails and mud and creeks.

Thanks, Yes. I was tempted by a fellow C10 guy who kept posting his truck with a ATC70 in the bed. Because of my ATC upbringing (110 was my first) I HAD to have one and found those three in San Marcos; $400 ea, $1,200 total. I was so much on the hunt, I talked him down some; but it was hard to put up much fight. First thing I did was pull those nice looking, but rusty, tanks off and put them away for later restoration - ordered some plastic tanks and import carbs. We were racing around the yard in a few days. They are all same year, '79 IIRC. The PO said his grandmother bought them all at the same time for family - but I don't know if that's completely accurate. Two are alike enough that I'd believe it - but the one in the distance is way off serial number and doesn't give the impression that it was as well kept as the other.

I'd like someday to take one and really do it up right and ride the other two. Two of them would be great candidates for a genuine restoration; they are very clean considering the 70s are the Cessna 152s of the ATC world.

Yes a farm equipment trader from cane through in the early 90s and bought it with some other stuff that was laying around, including a 1969 C10. They all went to Tamps.

Do I wish I had it back? In better condition than it was? Sure. But it was spent. I flat wore it out - including time on SPI when the dunes were a free-for-all. There wasn't much left of that bike - more use than abuse.
