Any ideas on how to smooth out the ride on the highway when not pulling a trailer?

So you bought a heavy duty work truck and now you want it to ride like a Lexus?

Hmmmmmmm.........

You can come ride in my superduty with HD shocks, 10 ply tires at 65psi, and polyurethane body mount bushings.

You might just need a little perspective.

I don't know how you make a new model superduty ride any smoother than they do. They are like silk. The bees knees.

Clearly you should just pull a loaded trailer all the time.

The ride sucks.

I put Fox shocks on mine and it didn't make that much of a difference.

Lowering the pressure to 60-65(whatever doesn't trigger the TPMS) seemed to make the biggest difference when not towing.

Step 1. Fox or Bilstein shocks

Step 2. 60 psi front 55psi rear

Then air back up when you tow stuff.

Yup, a couple hundred pounds in the back will smooth it out a good bit.

Did you buy it without driving it?

JK. But not really. Weight is the key. Nothing else works.

Maybe the reservior shocks will help soften it up?

I have 5100s on mine and rides much better than the OEM FX4 units.

Stock shocks ride smoother than expected!!! Will look into the 5100 when time to replace.

Thanks

A rear bumper made out of 1/2 inch steel plate weighing about 300 pounds will smooth it right out.

I have an F250 with 37s

I added Fox 2.0 Reservior Shocks (about $1k) and it rides better than stock

Not sure if it'll help the 350. I had a 2016 F350 and they are just rough!

Put a 1" thick 4x8' plate in the bed & it will ride like a Cadillac.

Next feature on the f350 vibranium edition will be hydraulic seats. They should get the tech from John Deere.

Anyone used Sulastic or Sumo springs? Do they work?

I think these actually used to be called "velvet ride shackles" and sold by BFG or someone.

Sulastic has had mixed reviews.

I bought some and had them installed in my small pickup truck when I was living in China. It made the ride much better than stock but after 2 years, I could see the rubber starting to crack and rot. Not bad but it was going to become an issue.

Is your truck a CCLB? There was a TSB out for 'Frame Hop' for CCLB trucks, which Ford added a dampener to the trailer hitch which is supposed to help the vibration. Apparently CCLB 99-16 Trucks with the 172" wheelbase had some kind of harmonic 'bounce' that happens at different speeds between 45 and 75, each truck is different based on weight and equipment configuration. I had it done on mine and it helped a great deal, but it doesnt ride like a Cadillac by any means.
