I've got a 2016 Tundra Crewmax 4x4. Its got the stock tires on it right now with black 20-inch stock rims.

I would like to upgrade the tires to a 34 or 35-inch tire, but I need some more room.

I'm thinking a 3-inch lift would do it some good, but I don't even know where to start. Are 3-inch spacers a terrible idea? Or do I need something more complicated?

Educate me a bit with some opinions...

I'd get a 3/1 level kit and get the biggest tires that will fit.

If you're ok with quite a bit of cutting and trimming you can squeeze 35s on with a 3in lift. I run 33s and rub with a 3in lift. I'd pay more for a 4in or settle with 33s.

I have the 3/1 Pro Comp Nitro kit and run 295/60/20. They rubbed just a bit at full lock in reverse but I trimmed out a small piece of the plastic on the back side of the bumper and they're good now.

Why not? I'm considering something similar for my '18. The stock wheels look kinda small and when I get new tires I was going to go bigger with a leveling kit

Yes, Im curious as to why not as well. I really only want 2-3 inches to accommodate some larger tires. Will ride quality be affected that much?

3 / 1 is not a bad way to go if your ok with a bit harsher ride. Depending on what wheel you run 35x12.5 will be tight and you might have to do some trimming (skid plate & bumper). Also depends on what 35" tires you get as some tend to run bigger then others.

Most people on the tundra boards will say to get the bilstein 5100 or 6112's to achieve a better ride and lift. Also safer to stick with a 33" or 34" x 11" tire unless you want to do a lot of trimming.

Many also advocate a shackle lift for the rear if you go for 3" up front instead of blocks on the leaf springs.

I ran a 3/1 on my 07 for 80k miles then switched to 6112 and 5160's. My stock shocks were gone and the ride sucked. It is much improved now and the rear end traction is much better.

Coachbuilder used to be the main guy for rear shackles and other random suspension parts. No idea if his prices are still competitive now but a lot of guys ran his suspension parts. I have a front shim and his rear bushings on my truck.

I believe the leveling kits will give you a rougher ride. I replaced my shocks/struts with OMEs and running the Coachbuilder shackle in the back and have no complaints about ride quality. This is my 2nd Tundra with the same kit. From everything I've read about 35s and 3in lifts you're going to be looking at cutting the body mount as well as the skid plate and plastic pieces. That was a deal breaker for me. When I get another I'll pay the extra money for the 4in lift to run 35s and do minimal trimming.

Are the wheel wells smaller on the new models or something? I'm running 35" BFGs (315/70r17) with 5100's set at ~1.5" up front and a 1" shackle in the rear on my 2007. All I had to do was trim the front skid a bit.

Are you running the Rock Warrior Wheels? If so those are the same wheels I have and also can fit 315/70/17. A guy on Tundra Talk was able fit 35's on those wheels under his stock truck no lift.

It has to do with the offset of the wheel. Most factory / aftermarket wheels are a little more offset than the Rock Warrior wheels, if I remember right. That allows them to fit the wheel wells better and have no issues with the width of a 12.5" tire hitting the frame.

You would never know I have 35's under my truck as they are tucked in and just look almost normal.

I am, one of my favorite Toyota wheels. Searched around for a set after I figured out what they were and paired them with some Raptor take-offs.
