Was driving fine through the neighborhood on the way to daycare. Then get to the three way stop to exit the neighborhood, put the foot on the gas and it just revs (like neutral).

3rd, 2nd, and 1st gear all work well, but D and R are not happening.

(Automatic transmission)

Have you checked the fluid level when running?

When was the fluid last changed?

Check and see if OD light is flashing, if it is there is a code. Good transmission shop and put on computer and see if any codes or what is happening inside the unit. Three good shops, Garys in Katy, Transmission Wholesale on Louetta and Circle D ( will be the most expensive but good). Contact them and explain the problem they may know the answer.

Funny enough, I needed an oil change this week (coming up on the 5,000 miles) so I had it towed to my mechanic. Fluid levels must have been fine as he, pretty quickly, called me back and said that it's definitely a transmission problem. I assume that to mean "more problematic than just fluids."

OD light didn't come on and my mechanic ran codes and nothing transmission-related came back.

Circle D is one of the best on the NW side of town but you're gonna pay.

5R55E transmissions are sensitive to maintenance and fluid level.

there is no dipstick on your truck so he would have had to gone under the truck and pulled the fill tube to verify the correct fluid level.

Given that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are apparently in working order, I wonder if it's an issue with the shifter/linkage/selector @ trans.

If the shifter is in 1st or 3rd and it successfully commands 1st gear, it should work in Drive as well.

Well, I put it in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and drove it all of 20 feet because of where it broke down (at an intersection). So I can't say that it drove well in those gears, but definitely 'gripped' better than in D, which was none at all.
