The headlights, particularly low beams, in my truck have always seemed less than adequate. After driving around the wife's Lexus GX 460 last week the headlights in my F150 seem like they are two mag lights duck taped to the front bumper. How difficult is it to upgrade the headlights in the F150? Can I just buy factory LED headlight assemblies for a Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum and plug and play?

Factory LEDs are expensive as all getout and require wiring as well as programming changes.

You could buy Morimoto replacements but they're pricey too.

LED bulbs may be a good choice, but make damn sure you adjust them properly.

I have Morimoto replacement Fog lamp assemblies in both trucks and they help a LOT.

I purchased Anzo headlights and put in LED bulbs. Like below. Spent ~$600 and 2 hours.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give these options a look. In hindsight I wish I had just paid more upfront for the factory options.

Resurrecting this post.

I just ran through west Texas at night in my 2018 F150 and the headlights are awful.

Are these the Morimoto headlights you were referencing, 1ags?

I found these for my 2013 F-150 and they have been a massive upgrade so far.

Just make sure you get the laser beam adjustment kit. Basically, you'll want to have the "upgraded" headlights pointing directly where the laser goes... preferably directly into the eyes of oncoming traffic.

I have a 2017 f150 and I agree the stock light output is straight ass. I felt they were subpar since I bought the truck, but we recently bought my wife a 2018 Explorer that has stock LED headlights and fog lights and WOW, the difference is amazing. The LEDs light up the road so much better and make me hate my halogens every time I drive at night.

I haven't bought them yet, but I am planning to get a set of Baja Designs fog lights to help out the situation. First you need this kit:

https://www.bajadesigns.com/products/Ford-F-150-15-17-XL-Fog-Pocket-Kit.asp

Then go here and pick a pair of XL Sports, XL Pros, or XL80s depending on how much light you want and how much $$$ you want to spend.

I'm probably going to go full potato and get the XL80s.

Also, you can find used stock LED headlights on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist occasionally, but they are still super expensive even for being used, and I can't bring myself to pay $1000-$1200 for used parts. Example:

Bump!

I been doing a lot of research on LED bulbs in the stock halogen housings. I read that these SL1 LED bulbs from Diode Dynamics are designed to place the diode exactly where the filament would be in a halogen bulb, and therefore producing the same reflection out of the housing. Except with much better LED light. So I bought some.

Overall, I can say they are a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over stock halogen bulbs. They are a nice daylight white color, and much much brighter. Like I can actually my lights on the road now. Lol.

I've only had them on 24 hours, but as of right now I can say I am very happy with them and they are definitely worth the money. I know LED bulbs don't have the best reputation for longevity, so I'll post an update down the road about that, but at least they come with a 3 year warranty. Hopefully I get several years of good use out of them and then I will gladly buy a new set.

On to the pics...

The box they come in:

Old headlight:

New headlight:

In truck, looking down the street, just new headlights:

In truck new headlights and stock fog lights:

Out of truck, just new headlights:

Out of truck, new headlights and stock fog lights: (note color difference)

Looking at truck, new headlights and stock fog lights: (note color difference)

In truck, pointed at neighbors house. You can see the cutoff line and how there is almost no glare up above the cutoff line

10/10 would recommend. Best option for sure without changing housings. Let me know if y'all have any questions.
