For those with newer model F150s with these engines, what's your real-world gas mileage looking like and what driving conditions do you face?

My 2.7L SuperCrew 4x4 is a highway cruiser and I'm at 22 mpg (and climbing) after the first 1,400 miles. Like 1ags, I keep mine at something less than 70mph when on the interstate. My dad's 2.7L is at 24+, but he's 2wd with the 3.31 rear end.

Curious what mileage you 3.5L guys are getting, especially those with 4wd.

I'm 2WD with 3.15s and 10 speed auto, tires at 41 PSI.

I havent seen a tank below 22.3 (hand calc). But I keep my auto start/stop enabled (disable it only if I'm in heavy stop and go), and typically don't commute in rush hour times.

Running along I10 to Louisiana I'm able to get 25-27.5 easily, usually 2 or 3 over the limit, but when its 75, I poke in the right lane at 73 or 74.

2107 f150 3.5 with the lowest gear setting, can't remember. Max tow package. I have it leveled with a block in the rear and larger tires. 4x4. Computer says 15 no matter what. But I didn't buy it for the gas mileage.

Recently have this weird grinding noise coming from the front end that has me concerned. Usually hear it on highway speeds. Then it will stop suddenly. I heard it could be a vacuum thing. 1Ags, have you heard of this? Sorry for the tangent.

My hand calc avg is 19.2 at 16k miles on a 4wd 2.7 supercab stx. 4 mile commute of traffic lights each day, then usually a weekend drive of 120 miles round trip highway (sometimes i'll hit 80/90 on accident) and maybe some mountain driving.

Improvement from my 01 explorer sport so whatever. I didn't get it for mpg's, I got it for mountain adventures and not giving a f how dirty ski/camping gear gets it.

So I drive pretty fast on the highway. Usually between 75 and 85, about 80 average. These numbers reflect that.

Previous truck: 2015 f150 crew cab short bed 2.7L 6 speed 2wd, 3.31. This truck was a gas sipper. Averaged 18-19 around town, 23-24 on the highway, 21 mixed. One time as an experiment I put the cruise on 68, reset the mpg info, and let it go for 30 miles without touching the gas or brake. It got 28mpg, no joke.

Current truck: 2017 f150 crew cab 6.5ft bed 3.5L 10 speed 4wd, 3.31. This truck is not a gas sipper. Lol. It gets 15-16 around town. 18-19 on the highway, averages a solid 17. I've aired up the tires to 45psi, tried running it on 93 octane, nothing made a difference. Still averages 17.5ish.

Another bit of anecdotal info. My good friend has a 2018 f150 crew cab short bed 3.5L 10 speed 4wd 3.55. When it was on the stock tune he got 20-21 on the highway. Now he's got an aftermarket tune for 87 octane and is getting 22-23 on the highway. He has higher gear and 20" wheels vs. my 18" wheels, and still got better mpg when when he was stock. We have no idea why. F him. Lol

Are you driving the 3.5 just as fast on the highway?

Weird. Wife and I get about 19-19.5 on the highway with our 4x4 Expy EL. It's heavier than an F150 too, and it's a 373 I think.

My 2014 3.5 is around 16 combined now after leveling kit. Before i was generally around 16.5-17.5. Trips to Louisiana for work (flat ground and no more than 5 over) would usually get me to the 19.5-20 range.

Now that everywhere is 75, i am going 83-85 everywhere and barely get out of 16mpg. 80 and i can get nearly 16.5-17, 75 and i can get 18-19 (more if driving to louisiana).

I have the 3.55 rear end

Glad to see some other 3.5 guys getting similar mileage as me. At least now I know theee isn't something wrong with my truck.

Certainly seems like mpg drops significantly when you drive it like a bat outta hell.

I put it at 69 (which always makes my immature ass chuckle) and try to max my efficiency.

I had a 3.5 single cab for a year. Mileage was about 14 in all city, short trips. 2.7 screw about 14.5 in similar conditions, with about 15% highway.

The last tank on the 2.7 the engine calcusaid 18.9.... hand calculated it was 14.7. That's only a 22% error for those who actually believe the calculator.

This is true! My favorite thing is that I get better gas mileage on my truck than a buddy who drives his tundra on cruise at 72, when I am doing 83-85. I can't drive slow no matter how hard I try. Only last a few minutes before I am back up and over the speed limit.

25 MPG on the highway in a full size truck that still traps 100 in the 1/4 is unreal. Ford is killing it in the power/economy game right now. I'm a GM guy but if I had to have a truck I would definitely buy a Ford right now.

Posted this a while back, isn't 100% what OP is asking, but info all the same.

Here's my info. Truck is a 2017 3.5 ecoboost XLT Supercab 4x2 6.5' bed, don't know gear ratio, used lowest grade gas. Tires balanced/rotated/filled regularly. Drive mix probably close to 10% idle, 25% city, 65% highway. All mileage hand calculated, I recorded computer data for the last 20,000 miles and it was high every time. Average of +1.4 mpg. High: +2.0 low: + 0.9

10,000 miles all modes standard:
Gross - 20.8 (10,302.3/496.4)
Drop 2 best/2 worst - 20.4 (7,589.6/371.6)
Best tank - 24.8 (785.2/31.7)
Worst tank - 19.2 (523.4/19.2)

10,000 miles with auto start/stop disabled:
Gross - 20.4 (10,113.4/496.5)
Drop 2 best/2 worst - 20.4 (7,617/374.2)
Best tank - 21.5 (692.7/32.2)
Worst tank - 19.2 (561.7/29.3)

10,000 miles in sport mode:
Gross - 20.2 (10,246.3/506.5)
Drop 2 best/2 worst - 20.2 (7,817.3/386.4)
Best tank - 21.3 (708.7/33.3)
Worst tank - 18.8 (480.2/25.5)

2016 5.0 Boost with six speed 3.55 4x4 Crew Cab leveled on 33s and 20s.

13.5 mixed driving with a heavy foot

17 mpg cruising at 70mph
Drops about .5 Mpg for every 5mph above that.

93 octane only on VMP custom tune

2018 STX 2.7, 10 speed, 2wd, 3.55, 93 octane (stock tune)
Computer usually around 21-24 mpg depending how much highway. Trip from Houston to DFW (4 hours) got 26.5 mpg.
Hand calculations are usually 0.6-1 mpg less than that.
Haven't had a tank less than 20 mpg. Mix between babying it and green lighting fools.

'13 Supercrew 3.5, 3.15, 150K now - about 31K/year
For the last 4 years I have driven between Lake Palestine and Frisco 2x/week. It's about 130 miles one-way. I drive right around 80 on Tollway, 635, 80, and 20. Slightly less once I get off 20. In-town driving is probably only 10% of my miles. I rarely use the cruise and probably drive a little too aggressively.
Summer gas is always between 18 and 19. Winter gas is always right around 17.
If I use the cruise and am not in a hurry, I can squeak another .5-1.0mpg - not worth it!
Anybody have an explanation for the difference in seasons?

Tire pressure unless you check it all the time, predominant wind, humidity and air temperatures effect on how the computer adjusts for it. Lots of little things can add up.

2016 3.5L SuperCrew, 4x4, 6.5 ft bed, 3.55 gears, with max tow. Went down to 18" wheels, but up to 275/70/R18 Ridge Grapplers. Run 87 octane on a Gearhead Performance tune.

I'm usually 5ish over the limit, when possible. Commute from Pearland to Downtown Houston daily.

Per the computer, I've averaged 17.08 mpg over the last 6 months - hand calc says 15.74 mpg.

FYI, there is a way to adjust your dash to read closer to hand calc, instructions are posted over here. I'm waiting on a little more post-tune data to make my adjustment.

Is your speedo accurate with the different tire size? I looked up the revs per mile for my exact tires, adjusted the tune and I'm still off a few mph which goes up with speed.

Yeah, corrected the speedo with Forscan and confirmed the match with the speedo in Waze.

2.7l with 2500 miles, 20" wheels.. 1300 of those coming from a road trim last week. Cruising on 10 from Houston to Alabama I got a little over 25 hand calculated mpg. Followed 1ags and stayed mostly at 73 with some jumps to 75 all set on cruise. Was amazed at the distance in one tank. My 15 Exp wasn't even this good with gas on the road.

'16 2.7 4wd screw 34-35k. 22.9 on the highway cruising 75-80. 19.8-20.2 general puttering around. Drops to 15-16 pulling a trailer. It is hard not to play with its speed, it will flat out run if you punch it.

Yes, I had to get a new block just before 2,300 miles, but since then it has been fine.

I pulled a 22' center console boat back from southern Louisiana last weekend with my friends almost new 2wd 5.7L Tundra. It's probably a six thousand pound load total. The truck had plenty of power and gobs of torque, but I was averaging 8 mpg on the highway at 75mph. Even with the 36 gallon tank, you had to start looking for a gas station if it got anywhere near a quarter of a tank.

My old tundra was supercharged on 33" tires and never averaged more than 11.3 and usually got about 14 on the highway at 75 unloaded.

Tundras are brutal on fuel, my new truck has significantly more power and averages 2 mpg better, both with six speeds and the same size wheels/tires.

In all seriousness though, come on Toyota! DOD, AFM, boosted smaller engines, diesel? Try literally anything new powerplant wise?

Yep, exactly the same since the 2007 model. That means it was probably designed in 2005 or so. At least the eight speed transmission might be a nice upgrade.
