Aftermarket Wheels for Dummies?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Interested in a couple used small SUV options. Looking mostly at low/mid trim levels - most have ugly steel wheels. I have never bought aftermarket wheels, so I am looking for any high level tips, brands to narrow searches to, etc. About all I know is that typically OEM are better quality vs aftermarket due to cheaper production/cheaper materials used and the fact aftermarket is designed to fit many more cars than a specific OEM.

Basically I am wanting to replace wheels due to vanity (I know some posters here are very much against vanity-auto purchases) but maybe the fact is that I will be sacrificing quality, which I may not want to do.

TIA for helping an auto-illiterate. If it helps, car will likely be a 2015ish RAV4, CX-5 or CR-V.

You'd be fine with just about anything from Discount Tire, just avoid chrome. Keep same width and offset. If not possible, increase track width marginally.

Hub bore adapters will allow you to keep the wheels hub centric.

My recommendation; replace the uggo steel wheels with OE wheels from higher trim of model whether it be wheels from current or older body style.

Buy takeoff rims for the vehicle off ebay or CL.

Seems like the issue with finding OEM wheels is that since I am going for base models, these are usually the 16" wheel size and not seeing many options.

If going aftermarket, is the main risk going to be possibly cracking/damaging one more easily? I know they get discontinued so I guess the consequence might be having to replace all 4?
