Eyeing a new used vehicle for my wife on Autotrader. Carfax shows an accident in 2013:

Damage Report:
Accident reported
Involving front impact
Involving rear impact
with another motor vehicle
Very minor front damage reported
Minor damage reported
Minor to moderate rear damage reported
Airbags did not deploy

Carfax shows no structural damage though. Is this enough to shy away from this purchase? Or was this just a minor fender bender and nothing to be afraid of?

Thanks for the insight.

I would have a pro make sure panels aren't replaced, under carriage looks ok, etc. My CPO Honda truck had a wreck on carfax when I bought it, I didn't really care as the repairs were good.

I would also run an autocheck as well to see if different info was reported. And use the carfax wreck in price negotiations, you should be able to get it cheaper

Buy the Autocheck on it. They will sometime list the accident number, which will lead to possibly seeing the report.

I was able to do this for a Mini last month and get an idea of the accident.

I'll never understand why, with the many used cars available, people still try to justify buying a used car that's been in an accident.

It's cheaper for a reason folks!

My Tundra had all but one panel replaced/repainted & one tow mirror replaced over the years before I bought it. It belonged to a friend, had very low miles, & the price was right. Done deal.

My wife's car had a carfax that said the exact same thing. In reality it had a bent unibody and was very close to being totaled. I also found out later on when doing a diminished value claim that it had been wrecked before I bought it. That turned up on the insurance company's carfax equivalent, but not on carfax. Don't trust the carfax comments.
