So my two bottom brake lights stopped working when depressing the brake pedal but the third brake light still works fine. It's not the bulbs as when I put the car in park the lights come on just fine.

I've been searching online but haven't found anything that I'm confident in.

Anyone experienced a similar issue? Could it be brake light switch even though the third brake light works?

Doubtful on the brake switch if the 3rd brake light is activating. Check your fuse.

What about reverse and neutral?

on my old elantra, the cruise control stopped working when the brake switch was bad. does yours work?

Are you out of warranty? Acura is 4 yr /50K IIRC....

When you say you put the car in park, you have someone stepping on the brake pedal in drive and there are no lower lights, and the same person puts the car in park, still with their foot on the brake, and the lights magically illuminate?

You don't mean when you turn the parking lights on, they light up, right?

Because if you mean this, then its the bulbs. They're dual filament, and one filament is activated when the parking lights and head lights are on, and the larger filament is activated when the brake pedal is pressed or the turn signal is activated.

It would be the latter that the lights don't come on with brakes no matter what but in park they come on with no brake compression. I'll replace bulbs then and see what happens. They both went out at the same time so it seemed like too much of a coincidence.

They went out at the same time, or you just noticed they were both out?

They both went out during one drive as I had left work with them working and arrived home with them not. Not sure if they went out at the exact same moment of course

Fair enough. Sometimes when I find a bulb out, I get to looking and realize that others are, as well.

I am still under warranty. I got the extended warranty because I purchased it from my FIL at his store so I got employee pricing. But I don't think they'd cover fuses or bulbs so I wanted to see if it was something like that or a real problem. I'm going to try the bulbs at lunch.

Don't think so just the tail lights.

Bulbs fixed it. Feel like an idiot asking about this however I did learn something new that the light bulbs have dual filaments so there you go.
