2013 335is
44.5k miles
N54T
DCT trans
COBB Stage 1 93 octane tune (positive that only 93 is in the tank)

SES thrown on my commute this morning. Ran Carly diagnostic through OBDII and showed #2 misfire with injection turned off. Cleared code and restarted the car and SES didn't return on a run to 5k holding 1st.

SES originally showed after a rev up and then letting off the gas in the middle of shift from 3 to 4 (really shouldn't do that). Restarted at a stop light and it cleared, but it returned about 5 miles later merging onto the freeway.

Should I just go ahead and replace my plugs and coils?

Thoughts?

Swap the coil somewhere else and see if it follows.

You could have a leaking valve cover gasket. I'd check for oil in the spark plug hole/end of coil pack. I've seen them start leaking around 50k miles.

I actually have 6 links, and was getting super pissed the more info I looked up...So, look it up yourself, I am not going to fight about something I know to be true, to a person who would just as soon see me in prison or dead.

It's not bad gas.

I have 2007 335i. Same motor. FBO, JB4/MHD, trans flash, meth, fuel pump upgrades, etc etc etc

I have no idea why you are running Cobb. They stopped supporting the platform years ago. You should really get over to MHD. xHP (or alpine) Trans flash is awesome too. Not sure what DCT options are out on both.

It's likely plugs or coils or could be you need a walnut shell blast or could be leaky injectors. We are on injector version 12 now. Many in the 1-10 range were recalled and would be replaced by BMW for free (if you remove the tune and mods when you take it in.).

Last time you did plugs, coils, injectors - if ever? Walnut shell blast?

At 50k miles you should be doing coils, plugs and walnut shell blast if you have never done any of these. Injectors are relatively expensive so I would take a freebie if you are under the recall.

Yeah, that one is MUCH more reliable than OPs...

Just going to replace the coils and plugs and go to a 1 step colder plug. Most likely needs to be done anyways since this thing apparently loves spark plugs. For $100, might as well do the coils while I'm in there.

None that has ever been to my knowledge and this tune has been on for about 9k miles. I fall under the recall (surprising because they love to keep the N54T out of those...), but waiting to see if new colder plugs and coils fix the issue. It runs fine at low RPMs, but popping SES when over 5k.

I went with COBB because it fit what I have planned for in the future with the car and I didn't want a piggyback with the JB4.

One step colder plugs are generally for folks running e85 mixes. Are you doing that? If no e85, I would not recommend going colder.

The injectors are like $300 each. If you are covered under the recall, I would definitely take advantage while you can (pull mods before you go to dealer) as it will save you around $3k.

Can you log with your Cobb? Are you going lean or rich? You can definitely find misfires with leaky injectors. Threads on n54tech or e90post about it.

You are due for plugs and coils so no harm in starting there. It may solve the misfires.

I would continue to encourage you to look at MHD for flash tuning as that's where all the improvements, advancements and custom tuning is happening. Cobb is dead. No support.

THIS. A lot of the Ecoboost Focus ST/RS and Fusion guys are finding out that Cobb isnt supporting squat anymore. Its a dead duck.

Confirmed to be the #2 coil. Back to having a fun car that can go over 3k RPMs.

Not sure, but it sure seems as soon as the Hypebeasts stop buying a certain car, they immediately stop supporting it.
