How long do you want to ignore this user?
My parents have a 2002 Ford Excursion with the 7.3L Diesel. It is a 4x2 however. I have 2 questions
1. How much/how hard would it be to convert it to a 4x4?
2. What is the going rate for these things now a days. If they tried to take it in and trade it they would be offered nothing but i know the market for them is far better than that.

I think it has 175,000 miles on it. It was loaded out Limited edition and still in great shape. Just curious. They offered to sell it to me the other day but i live in Wyoming and wont mess with it unless i could convert it to 4x4.
Thanks

It'll cost more than it's worth to convert it to 4x4. It's worth a lot more than you'd get on trade. Search AutoTrader - they pull a hefty premium with the 7.3 PSD depending on overall condition.

2WD 7.3Ls dont have as good of a resale as a 4WD truck. That being said, if you plan on keeping it forever, it is possible to convert to 4WD, though the cost may be higher than finding a truck that is already 4WD.

Ideally if you did this, you should find a Coil Spring truck (05-10) 11+ has different sensors.

Radius Arms with Brackets, Steering Linkage and box, Drag Link, Axle, Track Bar w/ Bracket, Steering Stabilizer w/ Bracket, Springs with cups and buckets, Brakes/Calipers/Lines/Hoses,
Transfer Case (may be better to do manual shift, 05+ wheels and new spare.

Not cheap but can be done.

At this point, you have a truck with 175K and a fresh 4WD conversion. At 250+ K miles, you'll want to start looking at injectors, seals, HPOP etc for a mild refresh to keep the truck running good.

If your pockets are deep and you want a new Diesel 4x4, buy a Customs Auto By tim Excursion or a Duraburb.

Buy it, add a locker. If you get stuck a bunch, sell it.

You're gonna have to sell it to one of us here.

I'd do this, at least.

Not necessarily.

If the trucks in good shape and they want to keep it, then it may be worth investing the time and effort to do it.

How much are they looking to get for it?

I have the same truck. Mine has 370k miles on it and is kinda beat, but solid mechanically. It was my work truck for the last 200k miles. I'm kinda hoping to get $5000 for mine. If your parents is in good shape you could expect closer to $8000 I'm guessing.

A 4wd swap isn't rocket surgery. The Excursion is basically an F250 underneath. Just find a wrecked donor truck and swap the bits, or get a shop to do it.

I should say, mine is for sale too! But don't expect a little old lady, only drove it to Church kind of vehicle! lol

Transmission
T-case
front driveshaft
rear driveshaft
front axle with matching gears
coils/arms or leafs
all the brackets
new steering parts
rear springs
cutting hole for shifter or wiring up esof vaccuum lines
tires
center caps for front wheels

As far as 4wd swaps go, sure, I guess it is not all that difficult, but I do not think it is worth it at all. I'd keep it 2wd or find a 4wd.

As far as resale, if I found a an Excursion that someone had converted, I'd pass for sure.
