Just threw the P0420 code x 2. Upon researching, I stumbled across the lacquer thinner solution and most of the reviews are positive. The car is running just fine, doesn't appear be burning oil and the mpg is still the same as it has been. Never changed plugs or really done anything to it.

Does the lacquer thinner really work? My concern is about the lacquer eating some of the fuel system parts. Anything to worry about with this? I guess the ethanol would eat anything the lacquer thinner would, but am not sure. I am planning to sell the car early next year and don't want to sink a grand in it if I don't have to. Thanks

I'd try BG 44k.

Look for leaks in the exhaust first, but it could be a bad Cat or sensor. Probably a bad cat and I doubt some laquer thinner will help.

Last time I pulled my cats, one was crudded up with big globs of corrosion of some kind, and the other was completely hollow corroded out. I had to replace the entire system.

I dont personally think this would fix it.

Wore out O2 sensors and Cats will throw this code.

Why not buy a Magnaflow direct replacement cat for it?
