We're looking to ditch the 2004 Honda PIlot soccer mom truckster and have narrowed the choices to the Traverse and Atlas.

She wanted an auto liftgate, 2nd row captain chairs, and 3rd row seating that also had a good field of view out the back of the vehicle, so the Atlas and Traverse were the top choices from what she drove.

She drove a Honda Pilot (which I hate), a Toyo Highlander (that didn't really fit the bill for her), Ford Explorer, and a Hyundai Sante Fe with the Traverse & Atlas coming out as the top 2.

We're trying to decide of those 2 which might be the best option.

I liked both but might be leaning slightly towards the Traverse only because the Atlas is a brand new line. The thing that saved the Atlas as a choice was the dealership(s) said it took unleaded gas as opposed to many other VW's requiring premium.

Curious to see what the board opinion was on either of those.

The Traverse and Lambda Triplets before this model didn't exactly win awards for quality and reliability.....

This.

And premium is a form of unleaded gasoline.

Yeah, I have some hangups with Chevy, but she didn't care for the others much.

I liked the Atlas but have always been a bit leery with a brand new line.

The 6 year, 72,000 mile warranty on the Atlas has got to be worth some peace of mind on a new model.

Not if you're always dealing with dealership trying to get rentals.

Did you look at the 3 row Santa Fe?

Yep.

I liked that one but couldn't convince wife. She likes bigger back windows esp when 3rd row headrests are so big.

I recently went through a similar decision and bought a Flex Limited Ecoboost. The ride height is perfect for getting kids in and out of car seats. It has great power and AWD. They depreciate like crazy so I was able to pick up a CPO with low miles for a great deal. The only drawback is the gas mileage isn't great around town.

I owned a VW (Jetta TDI) in the past and loved how it drove but didn't like the maitenance, reliability, or dealer.

I rented a Traverse a few years ago and it seemed like a good car, I enjoyed it but the fit and finish on it wasn't great.

Good luck.
