Hyundai wanted $1800 to fix the light and code E1448 by replacing the mat in the seat. I found some of these by-pass modules online and wondered if anyone has had any experience using one. I have seen prices go from $8 to $200 so I am still looking for the right one. TIA

what exactly does it bypass? just the sensor that disables the airbag if nobody is in the seat?

Yes, it makes it armed all the time and will turn off the light on the dash. Seems to be a very common problem with many brands. I need for a 2007 Hyundai Sonata Limited.

Is that a .5ohm resistor? Thats what i put in place of an air bag to keep the light off. I had good reason to, Im not sure why a hyudai would need that done

Once the light goes on it usually takes a scanner to turn it off. Id be surprised if a dealer touches that knowing its got some aftermarket bull**** added to the SRS wiring

If the dealer wanted 1800 to fix it, I doubt his Hyundai is under warranty.

OP, if you go to a trusted local mechanic I'm sure your car repair bill will be less. You can probably get that sensor replaced for a lot less than 1800 bones. The dealer is doing bad things to you without the benefit of vaseline....

There was a recall as well as a class action lawsuit about this.

Recall Number

Recall Date
04/10/2008
Component
AIR BAGS

Summary
HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 393,308 MY 2006-2008 SONATA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN ADVANCED AIR BAG SYSTEM WHICH FEATURES AN OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT. THE PURPOSE OF THE OCS IS TO DISABLE THE RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT FRONT AIR BAG WHEN IT DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF A CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM OR SMALL CHILD IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT. THE RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG IS DISABLED TO PREVENT INJURIES TO A CHILD THAT MAY RESULT FROM A RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG INFLATION DURING A CRASH.

Consequence
MISCLASSIFICATION OF A SMALL STATURE ADULT AS A CHILD IN THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAY CAUSE THE RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG TO NOT INFLATE IN AN ACCIDENT THAT MERITS AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN INJURY TO THE RIGHT FRONT OCCUPANT.

What Owners Should Do
DEALERS WILL VERIFY THAT THE OCS DOES NOT PROPERLY RECOGNIZE A PROPERLY SEATED ADULT OCCUPANT. AFTER VERIFICATION, DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY AND SHIP IT TO AN EVALUATION AND REPAIR FACILITY. THIS FACILITY WILL EVALUATE AND REPAIR OR REPROGRAM THE SEAT CUSHION AND OCS AS NECESSARY. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MAY 26, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.

If you dont want to mess with all that, online airbag places like airbag 360 etc will sell you an emulator that will show that the pass seat is occupied all the time, and if you get into a wreck, both driver/pass bags will blow.

Thanks for all the input. The dealer may take care of it after all. Called the factory people and they are supposed to get it done.
