My mother has a 2006 BMW 325i with high miles (about 200k) and the maintenance costs are starting to drive her crazy. She is looking at moving over to Infiniti, how does the maintenance cost of an Infiniti compare to a BMW?

As long as you follow the manual suggestions and not what the dealer recommends, it will be much lower.

Are you looking at used or new?

Infinity typically makes very reliable vehicles.

My maintenance costs for my old G35 which I bought used and owned for almost 8 years consisted of oil changes, one set of tires, and brake pads. It doesn't get much better than that so what did I do? I said f it and replaced it with a BMW.

Of course there are some exceptions, but if you look at Infiniti/Acura/Lexus as Nissan/Honda/Toyota, they all generally stack up very favorably maintenance-cost wise against the German brands. Of course, there are plenty of shady shops out there that see you coming and love to squeeze folks who don't know any better when they roll up in the luxury versions of what are basically Camrys, Accords, and Maximas.

Infiniti will be cheaper by a good margin.

I miss my Infinitis. Never had trouble. Ever.

Well, I did hit a Javelina in my M56 going 75mph in south Texas. But, whatya gonna do...

I had a dealer (Clear Lake Infiniti) recommend that I pay them to flush the transmission on my M37 before it hit 50K miles. Looking at the maintenance rec in the manual, there was no fluid replacement interval at all on the 7-speed unit that is essentially sealed from the factory.

They also wanted to refill my rear diff that has a sight glass showing it to be full of clean fluid, replace the coolant 60k miles ahead of schedule, "service" the perfectly functioning fuel injection, and align the wheels that tracked straight and wore the tires evenly.

This is what happens when your wife goes in for the complimentary oil change. I never heard back from them after my polite, but very specific email.

To the OP - I have had good experiences with Infinitis. We also had a 2003 G35 that we kept for five years and had zero issues with it, we sold it to my brother-in-law, and he finally got rid of it last year when the interior trim started falling apart. 13 years is a pretty good haul. He never had any major issues with it, maybe replaced the radiator at some point.

I had my 03 350z for just shy of 10 years, and the big things that needed replacing over the life of the car were all the bushings (just south of 2k iirc), the a/c compressor replaced (failed at less than 65k on the odometer), manual transmission (early 350z's were known to have synchros fail in them-replaced under warranty otherwise that was going to be about 6-7k), and tail light bulbs.

Other than routine oil changes, the car was relatively problem free. And I sold that with around 150k on it. Other than some trim pieces that had some wear on them, it was in pretty great shape. If I had kept it, I was looking at replacing the clutch on it sooner rather than later.
