I'm looking at getting a cover for my 2010 F150 and think I have it down to a BakFlip or Undercover Flex. From what I've read it seems pretty split. Staunch backers of both.

Oh wise posters of the auto board, what say you? Anyone have experience with one or both?

I've had a Bakflip for about 5 years and still love it. My next truck will get one as well.

while I know it isn't considered water proof, how close is it?

I have the BakFlip MX4 on my 2016 F150 FX4 Lariat.
Good solid cover. Very happy with it.

As for being "waterproof" - most if not all the water comes in around the tailgate. Not a big problem for me. There is a tailgate gasket kit you can get to minimize water entering around the tailgate.

My Undercover is less than 2 years old and I'm having to get it warrantied for multiple issues. Seals melting, screws falling out, etc.

Bakflip F1 here. I get a little water in the bed from the carwash bit not much. 2013 2500hd Silverado.

I don't have the tailgate seal so I do get a little water back there but not enough to bother me. If you don't have the tailgate seal no cover is going to keep you totally dry.

I had a BAK fibermax a couple years ago. Loved the look but it leaked like a SOB, not just in the corners but also all the middle seams. Through warranty they sent me 3 different ones and all 3 had the same issues and one had all the seams come in-glued. I was pissed for spending $700 on it. Recently bought a Truxedo roll-up for my newer truck and while it doesn't look as nice it is 100% better when it comes to being waterproof which is what I wanted it for.

Bakflip owners.

If the price was the same would you prefer the Gator Retractable? Or is the flip style superior?

I like the "flip" style covers - that's what I've always had on my trucks.

I will use the cover to set things on from time to time.... Just seems more natural with the flip covers than the roll up style.

I have a Gator Cover, seems as close to identical to the Bakflip as you can get. So far so good. If it dumps rain, I get a few drops in weird places, but nothing throwing a towel over something wouldn't catch.
