I need a set of tire for my beater truck. 98 dodge 1500 4wd.

Hankook has a value line of tire called Laufenn.

I just need a decent set of tires for the occasional trip to home depot or out to a buddy's farm.

I'd do it, if not for the tire, then just for the spiritual journey.

Just buy a set of factory take-offs from CL if you want to go cheap as long as they are not too old.

I looked into Take offs but R16s are few and far between.

Any recs for an appropriate set of 265 75 r16?

I've got Michelin LTX Firestone Destination A/T on my 2003 SIlverado. I like them, but they're more costly than a really cheap tire.

If Discount is willing to sell them, they can't be that bad.

The exception of course would be Goodyear tires, I'd trust the Laufenn line over the Goodyear.

Discount Tire Direct is showing 57 different options in that size so I wouldn't say you don't have much to choose from.

That's the size of my Excursion too. They come up on craigslist every 3 months or so. You just have to be alert and grab them when you can.

If not cheap used tires, then stay with Michelins or maybe the Firestones. I get terrible life out of anything else. I have Firestones on it the rear right now and they seem to be doing great. I got them because Pilger's was out of the Michelin's when I needed them.

The other option is to call around to those wheel places that outfit the Bro-dozers. I bet they have stacks of stock sized tires that Bro's pull off their trucks.
