My wife's CEL came on a couple of days ago so I took it to autozone and the code was P0430-bank 2 catalyst system efficiency was below threshold. I understand that this is likely a bad cat or sensor. The car has 55k miles and is acting fine. I made an appointment yesterday to bring it in next week and then last night, I cranked it up and the light was no longer on. It was on for about 5-6 engine starts and that is it. Should I wait until it comes back on to bring it in? I figured it would be best to just wait since I don't think it is a problem that will leave her stranded. I'm also wondering if it was just a bad reading on the system and there is actually nothing wrong. Any insight?

Run some Seafoam through the gas tank. Ethanol gas causes the sensors to get dirty.

Federal law says the warranty in emissions related items, which includes the cats, is 8 years or 80,000 miles. If the CEL comes back on, let the dealer replace the cat.

Thanks, Doug. I did talk with them when I scheduled the appointment and they confirmed emissions coverage. I just wasn't sure if I should wait until the CEL comes back on.

I've got 118,500 on my 2014 Silverado. I'm in outside sales, so its somewhat expected.

Same here as far as outside sales goes. It's actually closer to 150k, bought new in May '14.

You've got me beat. I got mine in Aug '14 with 40K. They guy before me got it new in Jan '14.
