2008 Ford Edge
3.5L, V6

When at an idle, car will "shudder" a bit and RPM's will drop for a second then pic back up. Cycle repeats about every 5-10 seconds. Has stalled twice on me when backing into a parking space.

Cleaned the MAF sensor and didn't really help. I'm thinking throttle body. Would like to replace sensor first rather than entire TB. Hayne's manual says can't do it, must replace entire TB. I've even seen some folks online refer to the same. My question is this....why is the part (the TP sensor) readily available for purchase if it cannot be independently replaced. Furthermore....should I try it anyway?

Throttle body

Could be build up on the valve that's causing it to stick. Would keep you from having to replace the sensor.

At any rate, it sounds like you've narrowed down the problem to one specific area. That's always half the battle.

The throttle body on my Grand is not supposed to be cleaned either. Others have done it, as have I, just be very gentle with it and don't spray that carb cleaner all over the place. I used some Q-tips around the edges but I'm sure there are other methods out there. This was over 100k miles ago now.

Buy 3M TB Cleaner, hose it all out, disconnect negative terminal for 20 minutes.

Start car, idle 60 sec with AC off, then foot on brake and in drive for 60 sec.

Turn on AC, idle in park for 60 sec, and foot on brake in drive for 60 sec.

Drive normally.

How old are plugs?

Last time you ran some Fuel Inj cleaner?

Plugs are brand new. Just did a tune up a month ago. Injector cleaner? Never. Which do you recommend?

You can do that too as long as the spray is suitable for Throttle body coatings.
