Whats the difference between the two types and is it okay to top off blue coolant with green?

Subaru?

If so, you can put blue in a green coolant car but not vice versa.

Blue was used in all 08+ Subis I believe.

Green is supposed to be the universal coolant than can be combined with anything, but the colors don't guarantee anything. Try to use the listed 'or equivalent' coolant for your vehicle. The corrosion inhibitors may not be compatible with your coolant or engine block. It's pretty cheap insurance to use the right stuff.

No it's a new Honda Accord, came with blue, the back of the Prestone coolant says it can be used with any color. Just want to double check if I should use the standard Prestone or buy the OEM coolant and spend a bit more.

For my beater Audi A4, or my Silverado, I'd use whatever was cheapest and compatible(ish).

For my GTI, only VW pink,

For a brand new Honda, I'd use the Honda specific, unless you can get a guaranteee that the "universal" would suffice.

Drive by dealer. Ask them to top it off.

If you mix green, however small an amount, you have green coolant in the car and MUST adjust maintenanace accordingly. Dont put a quart in and think you can go 100k miles.

Spend the money and put the factory stuff in

Definitely don't mix the green with Dexcool.

The "all colors and all types" can be mixed but like AgMech said, it will shorten life.

If you're just a little low, just add some water.

Never though I'd say this to 1ags, but FTFY.

The minerals in tap water promote galvanic corrosion and that's as bad as or worse than mixing coolant types. Obviously in case of emergency, adding tap water or green coolant is better than an overheating engine, but it's not something you want to do if you can help it.
