Looking to order some things on Amazon before the end of the year. I just received a Griot's Garage 6" DA Polisher for Christmas.

Would anyone be up for suggesting items (compounding, polishing, waxing, washing, claying, etc.)?

I was also wondering if I should get the 5" backing plate with appropriate pads instead of staying with the 6" plate that came with the polisher.

2 buckets and a grit guard is a good place to start if you're not doing that for washes already.

Ammo NYC products are pricey but he does some great youtube videos on tools and techniques for washing and detailing.

Medium clay bar
CG V36 cut and V38 finish Polish
6 inch Orange Pad & Black Pad
CG Blacklight and Hybrid V07
Foam Applicator pads

Throw in some new towels in there too.

Should be good to go.

Has a good forum. Poor boys are awesome products. I use them daily for years now. A lot of the outcome depends too on the car color, clear coat or single stage? New or old car? Have fun!

Update: stupid easy method.

Products/Tools: Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash; Meguiars Fast Finish; Costco Kirkland Microfiber towels; Chem. Guys chenelle mitts (green are cheapest); Adams Foaming Pump sprayer (not "multi") or inexpensive electric pressure washer with Foam Cannon; Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner; Griots Interior Detailer. All fo these can be bought at Walmart, Amazon, or O'Reillys (you might have to order the Meguiars gallon bottles).

For a car, 3-5 mitts are necessary or you need to spray off a mitt each time you use it. Don't use a bucket with soap as you will always (regardless of how many you use) a) dilute the soap making it ineffective; and b) introduce SOME dirt to the car when you reapply the mitt. The PPVBW has a high pH and does remove old or poor wax, but it, unlike most other car soaps, also removes road film. You won't clean your car effectively with regular car soap. Dawn is a BAD idea (needs hot water to be most effective and has some abrasives), by the way, and PPVBW is cheaper.

Use the foam applicator or pressure washer, one section at a time, GENERALLY top to bottom, but with a clean mitt, this isn't a huge deal. Rinse, dry, and finish with Fast Finish. Easy to apply and provides as good or better protection than almost any wax type product on the market short of ceramic coating. There is honestly no reason to use anything else UNLESS you feel a need to go ceramic. But that doesn't fall under stupid easy -- nowhere close.

For tires and interior, Meguiars AP cleaner. I don't recommend degreasers on tires and neither do tire OEMs. For wheel cleaner, most of the stuff at Walmart is within 10-20 percent of each other. I use an acid based cleaner but not everyone wants to do that. No, the AP cleaner (cut 10:1) is NOT too harsh for leather but it may be a bit much for dashes. I like Griots Interior Detailer. Note that Griots sells an Interior CLEANER and Detailer product. Never used the Cleaner but have a bottle or two to test. Probably won't buy it long term because it can't be diluted but I like the Detailer product. Simple and effective for dashes.

the two bucket method:

Car wash buckets with grit guards:
http://www.autogeek.net/car-wash-bucket.html

Car wash soap, most major brands like meguiars or armorall are fine, avoid dish soap as it strips all the wax:
http://www.chemicalguys.com/Mr_Pink_Car_Wash_1_Gal_p/cws_402.htm

Chamois and microfiber towels from home depot for drying

Car Duster between washes, that never needs cleaning and can last 20 years:
http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-2196-the-orginal-california-car-duster.aspx?google=shopping&gclid=CKjAt_uelckCFZWDaQodehENkQ

Wheel Cleaner that won't dull the alloy finish over time, also works on alloy exhaust tips:
http://www.autogeek.net/dp370.html

Tire cleaner:
Any degreaser from home depot can be diluted and put in a sprayer for a cheap cleaning of tires, undercarriage and engine bay.

Tire Dressing. We always wash the tires and wheels before the car, apply the dressing, then come back and reapply after cleaning the car. A regular rag polish between the spokes makes a big difference. Nice polish of engine bay as well.

Bumping this thread to ask how you liked the stuff you ordered from Chemical Guys? Thinking I'll be ordering some car care stuff in the next few months.

I have their interior detail spray and their Max Suds II wash for my foam cannon. Can't complain one bit, thought I switched to the max suds 2 when I got the foam cannon and I think as long as the soap makes good suds it will be super easy to wash with a foam cannon.
