Looking at putting this on our '68 convertible. Anyone have any reviews or insight as to improved handling or ride quality?

Not a mustang person at all, but these folks seem to have the pro-touring mustang figured out. Also looks like they might have gotten some of their components made by the same folks behind TCP (Chris Alston's chassisworks).

Here's one of their cars on big muscle.

I have the TCP suspension with vari-shock coil over suspension. My chassis was designed by Chris Alston at Chassisworks. I highly recommend their products. Picture of it installed for your reference.

Mike has moved on from Maier Racing and opened his own shop called Mike Maier Inc. Mike is the best suspension setup guy there is, and a great friend. I highly recommend you check him out.

What are your goals? Would you take it to an autocross or road course? I have quite a few suggestions, but need more info. The rabbit hole can be as big as you want it to be.

To be honest we're never going to make this into a racing car. It's primarily a fool around town and tailgate car - it's been in the family since the 70's and has been to College Station more times over the years than we could attempt to count. That said, it sat unused for the better part of a decade in a garage and we haven't done nearly enough work to the functional side as the aesthetic. Upgrades to dates have been a new paint jobs, new upholstery, disc brakes in the front, and upgrading the radio/speaker system.

We would like to get it in condition so that it starts reliably (there's an intermittent short somewhere that will randomly drain the battery) and is capable of long-haul drives of Dallas to CS (it will go 90+ minutes on the highway now but we haven't pushed it with the old radiator). Also want to get it in as modern as possible from a handling & safety standpoint.

Short list of items we're looking at:

  • upgrade suspension, we put new shocks on but everything else hasn't been swapped in years (also have an issue with the front coils shifting in place and sounding like the front end is going to come off)
  • eliminate cabin noises - the squeaks and rattles in the doors and dash
  • upgrade front/rear lighting - LED taillights and brighter headlights are under consideration, just want it safer to drive at night
  • new radiator/fan - would prefer to not overheat while sitting in game day traffic
  • new power steering would be great - currently have to rev in neutral to turn the wheel when not moving
  • install anti-theft system or kill switch

I have my work cut out for me. I'll get details to you in the next day or so, but here's a short answer based on how you drive the car. The $2,000 for the TCP coil over kit (that you definitely don't need) will easily cover your entire list if you mildly upgrade the suspension using OEM style parts.
