Where do y'all get rid of used coolant? I tried O'Reilly, Autozone, and Walmart and they only take oil.

Some cities, like College Station, have hazardous waste disposal events. That's where I've gotten rid of mine in the past. Houston has a "consumer recycling center" that will take it: http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/westpark-consumer-recycling-center

I dumped mine down the storm drain when I lived at my rent house and the hoa got their panties bunched up over it sitting in a bucket. Problem solved, *******s.

Also, walmart won't take it if you ask. But if you leave it there.....

Problem with coolant is the shops have to pay to have it disposed of. The used oil they sell.

I asked this question last year. I believe a local Jiffy Lube took mine.

Come to think of it, I have a septic tank...just dump down a drain? It's the older kind that doesn't runoff or whatever the newer septic systems do.

Goodyear and Firestone both take it, advance auto too.

Putting in your septic tank is a horrible idea. It will kill the bacteria that makes the tank function and likely kill anything in the area of your fill lines.

I asked a local auto parts store and they told me to take it to a specific oil change place. There is bound to be one in your area that accepts coolant.

That is where the City of Conroe FAQ says to go.

Funny story, I had about six gallons to dispose of a couple of years ago:

- Tried Walmart, autozone, no luck.

- Checked the city website, struck out again.

- Called the fire department, they told me I had to go to the Water Treatment facility.

- Went to the Water Treatment facility, they sent me to the Waste Water Treatment facility.

- Went to the Waste Water Treatment facility, they ended up calling around and figured out that it was actually back at a building next door to the Water Treatment facility.

- Went back to said building. Spoke to the City Engineer, who told me to dispose of it in a used oil receptacle.

- Drove to the receptacle, where it says "no antifreeze" in huge letters. Said $&%# it and dumped the coolant in the receptacle.

- Had to change my coolant again after all the miles and time I spent trying to dispose of it properly.

and people are shocked that DIYers dump it down the storm drain...

I probably spent a good 3 hours of my time researching/figuring out where to dispose of said coolant.

Three hours? It took me three seconds to type "hazardous waste woodlands" and come up with the Precinct 3 recycling center.

LOL No.
There may be better ways to dispose of antifreeze but it is absolutely legal to pour it down the sink in Texas.
Certainly not good for the environment though.
