How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not here to debate whether I should buy a car there or not. I just have a question for those who have experience with them.

Did you get your own mechanic to look at the car? How did you do that? Did you have a mechanic look at it while you test drove or did you have to request to let a mechanic take a look? If so how long do you get?

The mechanic I go to is in Cypress and they are in Stafford so I'm wondering if I will be able to use him or not.

Not in Relation, but what mechanic do you go to in Cypress?

Don't have any problems yet, but I would like a rec

I used these guys for a couple cars in Houston. one of which was at TDA. I thought the report they sent was pretty thorough.

They are at TDA all the time just because of the high volume of cars they keep out there. so scheduling was easy and TDA was very accommodating.

I did not end up buying the car, but not because of anything in the inspection

Yes. Paid $100 at a place in Richmond near pecan grove to do a pre purchase inspection. TDA let me test drive it all day so long as it was back before close.

i can't say for sure what they did but the suburban ended up having a ton of issues. I'm not sure what they could have caught though as it was all radiator/transmission related.

I waited 24 hours and decided we all are curious:

Why do you want to buy a car from a place that sells badly wrecked vehicles that may or may not have a salvage title? That may or may not show up on Carfax?

I get it; the vehicle is cheaper. But it most likely has been in a bad wreck with deployed airbags.

Well that was why I want a vehicle inspection done. So I can find out if the car has been through that.

We just sold a car to TDA and I can assure you it's a 9/10 cosmetically and a 10/10 mechanically. They have good cars on their lot of you do your homework. If it looks weird at all then walk away.

That seems like a pretty bold assumption. We all know TDA sells some wrecked cars but is there any evidence that the majority of their cars sold have been in bad wrecks?

1Ags posted a picture a few years ago of their back lot; it was a solid line of wrecked vehicles waiting to be fixed and passed on to unsuspecting buyers.

Just my 2 cents.

I bought the WRX almost spontaneously. I had the maintenance history and was satisfied that the engine, diffs, trans were in good condition.

Things the inspector missed on the car:

  • bubble in the front right tire
  • sidewall damage to rear tire
  • front right fog light lens busted
  • front left fog light bulb burned out
  • minor paint issues at rear of roof, nothing a detail can't fix
  • both front CV axle boots blown
  • rear spoiler wobbles

I should've done my own due diligence for sure. But if I'm paying for an inspection, these things should've been caught. I called and could only get a partial refund out of the guy. Needless to say I'll never be paying for another inspection and will do a better job myself anyways.

It could also have been their pending sale auction cars, ie all those sleds they buy from the public and never resell.

I used to buy for them at auction and I can assure you they did not pay me if the car had a wreck on CarFax or auto check.

But we've seen a picture on the internet so it must be true!
