Need some help from some in the know.

Wouldn't start. I replaced the battery and it won't turn over. I replaced the spark plug and when out and starting it has spark.

So, what is the next thing to check? It sounds like the motor isnt turning. I've read about the bendix might be the issue. How can I test that?

It does have a pull start. No luck there either. Sounds like not a lot is happening when I pull on it. Has resistance, but sounds "light" if that makes any sense.

Will it start with starter fluid?

I pulled the fly cover off and the bendix was turning the fly wheel. A couple of observations:

1. The bendix did not spring back off the flywheel when I let off the starter. It stayed on.

2. From cranking so much, the battery stopped turning as if it were dead. Anything to do with fly cover being off or just lack of battery volts? Either way, I've recharged and will try again after work.

3. Fly wheel is pretty rusty? Should I pull and hit it with a wire brush? Assuming it turns well with charged battery and there is still a spark... doea that rule out a possible bad stator or pickup coil?

4. Starter relay (first destination of positive cable from battery) is almost completely rusted through.

Last night with a full battery it turned properly, but still no fire. I pulled spark plug and it has a strong spark.

Acts like it is not getting any gas so im going to replace the inline filter (can this be any inline filter at a parts store or does it have to be specific?).

Can we get a little more info? What year? Has it been sitting for a while? Premix gas or regular? When did it run last?

1997 year model. 4 stroke so regular gas. Not sure when it was last running. Acquired it recently.

I don't think the filter is a bad idea, but I don't think it will get it running, and my guess is that your carb is dirty/varnished from sitting. I would try a little carb cleaner spray, and if you can get it to fire, and run a little bit, then I'd look into a rebuild kit and some YouTube videos.

When I got home from work yesterday there was a puddle of gas under the atv. I accidentally left the fuel valve on.

So I definitely think i have a carb issue. Its getting has but maybe the float is stuck and its flooding.

Drain the tank completely. Probably water in fuel. Had the same problem with my 05 Kawasaki
