How long do you want to ignore this user?
My passenger side mirror no longer power folds. I can hear the motor when I hit the button but the mirror no longer folds. The driver side is ok. It's annoying b/c I have to fold the mirrors to fit in my garage.

Anyone have any experience with this problem? Any idea what it costs to fix? Can this be solved with a trip to Autozone?

Thanks for your help!

$400 range, unless you have a buddy who is handy.
Autozone, no.

You should be able to manually move it.
If you are not too far out of the 36,000 warranty maybe the dealer will good will part or all of it.

What is it - probably a stripped plastic gear?

Typical GM issue.. Mirror is $700+ from dealer depending on if you have blind spot or not. Buy one off eBay, they'll run about $299 If you're good with installing yourself. If yours is painted to match body color sometimes you can find one on eBay that is painted, otherwise you can remove the painted piece from your old one and swap it.

However, since you mentioned autozone I am going to assume you'll need a buddy to help if you go this route.

Thanks for the replies. I found a mirror on GM parts direct for 200 dollars. From what I can tell I would have to remove the interior door panel to access wire loom for the mirror. Sounds like a lot of chances to screw something up. I am fairly handy, however when it comes to this kind of stuff i see my self ruining the door panel trying to remove it.

Door panels are easy, it's the dash that's hard.

Get on YouTube, there's a lot of good videos on GMT900 door panel removal. Then you can decide if it's something you want to tackle.

Here's the process:

Disconnect battery
Remove door panel
Remove mirror panel
Unplug mirror from harness
Remove nuts holding mirror to vehicle
Remove mirror
Put on new mirror
Reinstall nuts on new mirror
Plug in new mirror
Reconnect battery to test
Test mirror
Reinstall mirror panel
Reinstall door panel

Profit!

We have on '08 Suburban and the driver's side mirror power folds sporadically. It quits working for awhile (and makes a grinding sound), and then magically starts working again. We've left ours like this for over 2 years now, but we don't have to use it every day (and I can always roll down the window and manually fold it in if need be).

Be careful pulling your door panels, clips are very easy to break
