My '08 Chevy Silverado 1500 dash has multiple cracks in it, and is essentially going to be gone within a few months in terms of its integrity. I looked at Rockauto.com for dashes, but couldn't find any. I've talked to a dealer, and they were saying it's $750 to replace the dash. Is there anywhere I could find a dash (i.e. website) so I could replace it myself, or at least give to a competent home mechanic that won't charge me an arm and a leg? Thanks.

This is common. ***** and moan to the GM of the dealer and get corporate involved if they won't work with you on replacement cost.

Live with it. The replacement will crack too.
GM won't assist unless you bought it new in my experience. And even then expect maybe half.

It's like GM has turned into Dodge all of a sudden!!

I really can't "live with it", I already have a plate-size piece of the dash superglued on, and several of the metal tabs/clips that hold the dash in place have also broken off. The dash will literally not exist in a little while, and really not looking to get into a barking match with a gm at a dealer (I bought it used from a random used car dealer), hence my asking if there is anyway to independently find the part. I'm willing to spend a few hundred dollars even if it will end up cracking also eventually, but I'm not going to have a huge open area where my dash used to be showing all the duct work and wires.

I'm not sure on the Chevy but the dash replacement on my old Dodge required dropping the dash which is why the labor was so high.

The Coverlay glues down over your existing cover.

Edit... first time using *******....

my o7 bbs dash did the same thing. I got the initial, gonna be 750 from a local dealer. I called GM and they were even more useless. I stumbled across a Facebook group of people all around the country having the same problem. I stayed persistent, called the dealer I bought it from, which was further away, why I didn't go the first time. Raised hell, and they replaced it for a $100 deductible. You just have to be firm and piss and moan. The dealer doesn't initially want to do it because they can charge you more in labor and parts then what Gm will reimburse them.
